Position Overview: Mechanic II

This role is for a fully trained shop mechanic capable of executing all essential shop tasks and routine preventative maintenance. Responsibilities include performing repairs on tractors, trailers, and minor refrigeration power unit repairs.

  • Compensation: $28.00 to $30.00 per hour based on experience, plus a shift premium of $0.50 per hour.
  • Work Schedule: Sunday to Thursday, starting at 10:00 PM. Schedule adjustments can be accommodated if necessary.

Key Responsibilities as a Mechanic II:
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Class 8 tractors.
  • Execute both simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Independently diagnose, remove, repair, replace, or rebuild:
    • Brake systems
    • Wheel seals
    • Tires
    • Tractor suspension
    • Minor body repairs
    • Batteries
    • Drive lines
    • Light repairs
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines.
  • Troubleshoot cooling systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests.
  • Utilize cutting torches and welders for cutting or welding tasks.
  • Read and apply service bulletins and technical manuals.
  • Maintain shop tools and complete necessary paperwork and computer entries.
  • Adhere to company work and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors and peers.
  • Follow instructions and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Complete training and certification for required equipment within 30 days of hire.
  • Abide by the company attendance policy.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to adapt to job demands, including availability for on-call rotations.
Qualifications for Mechanic II:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade school education in heavy-duty diesel repairs or refrigeration is preferred. Entry-level candidates are welcome, as training will be provided.
  • Some experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance and repairs is necessary.
  • Must possess basic hand tools (up to ½" drive) and a tool storage solution.
  • A valid Class C Driver's License is required.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient for job-related tasks, including understanding work instructions and safety protocols.
