About Us:
Detroit Mechanix is a professional ultimate frisbee team based in Detroit, Michigan. We compete in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) and are committed to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play. We are currently seeking experienced and knowledgeable individuals to join our team of referees and officiate our home games with integrity and professionalism.
Job Description:
As a Referee for the Detroit Mechanix, you will be responsible for enforcing the rules of ultimate frisbee and ensuring fair and safe competition during our home games. You will work closely with other officials and game management personnel to uphold the integrity of the sport and provide an optimal experience for players and spectators alike. Your expertise and impartiality will be essential in maintaining a level playing field and resolving disputes effectively.
Responsibilities:
  • Officiate Detroit Mechanix home games according to UFA rules and regulations, ensuring fair play and player safety at all times.
  • Make impartial and decisive rulings on game actions such as fouls, violations, and scoring plays.
  • Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and fellow officials to clarify rulings and maintain game flow.
  • Enforce penalties and administer disciplinary actions as necessary, while remaining calm and composed under pressure.
  • Attend pre-game meetings and training sessions to review rules, discuss game management strategies, and address any concerns.
  • Collaborate with game management staff to address any logistical or administrative issues that may arise during games.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience officiating ultimate frisbee or other sports at a competitive level is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of UFA rules and officiating mechanics, or a willingness to undergo training and certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain composed and impartial in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong decision-making abilities and the confidence to enforce rules consistently and fairly.
  • Physical fitness and agility to keep pace with the game and maintain optimal positioning on the field.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the UFA season.
