What is a professional shopper?

Professional shoppers are individuals hired to purchase goods or services on behalf of clients. Their clients may include busy individuals, businesses, or people seeking expert advice on fashion, gifts, or specialized products. These shoppers use their market knowledge and eye for quality to select items that meet their clients’ preferences and needs. They may work independently, for shopping services, or with retailers. Professional shoppers often have strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional shopper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional Shopper, you need strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and familiarity with retail environments, with some roles preferring prior experience in customer service or fashion. Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking software, and mobile shopping apps is often required. Outstanding communication, time management, and a keen eye for trends help you deliver personalized shopping experiences and build client trust. These skills ensure accurate selections, efficient service, and high client satisfaction in a competitive retail landscape.

How does a professional shopper typically collaborate with clients and retailers to ensure a successful shopping experience?

Professional Shoppers work closely with clients to understand their preferences, needs, and budgets before beginning any shopping tasks. They maintain regular communication, often providing updates and seeking approvals on potential purchases. Additionally, they build strong relationships with retailers and store associates to access exclusive products or secure special deals for their clients. Effective collaboration and clear communication are key to ensuring client satisfaction and delivering a personalized shopping experience.

What is the difference between Professional Shopper vs Personal Assistant?

AspectProfessional ShopperPersonal Assistant

While both roles involve assisting clients, a Professional Shopper focuses on purchasing and sourcing products, whereas a Personal Assistant handles administrative tasks and personal errands. The roles may overlap in client interaction but differ mainly in core responsibilities and work environments.

How do professional shoppers get paid?

Professional shoppers typically get paid through hourly wages, per-project fees, or commissions based on the value of their purchases. Payment methods depend on the employer or client, and some may also offer bonuses for efficiency or quality. They often work as independent contractors or employees, using skills like negotiation and product knowledge to earn income.

How do you become a professional shopper?

To become a professional shopper, you typically need strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of retail or grocery environments. Gaining experience through retail jobs or freelance shopping platforms can help build relevant skills, and some professionals pursue certifications in retail or customer service to enhance credibility.

Job description

We’re looking for a Part-Time Fit Expert / Personal Shopper to join our team and help customers find swimwear and beachwear that fits beautifully and makes them feel their best.

The Role

As a Fit Expert / Personal Shopper, you'll be the person customers turn to for thoughtful, personalized styling and fit advice. You'll get to know each customer, understand what they're looking for, and confidently guide them toward pieces that suit their body, style, and lifestyle.

This is more than a retail position — it's about creating a memorable, one-on-one experience.

Schedule

We can offer either a flexible or fixed schedule. We are looking for someone to work 3–4 shifts per week, approximately 4–6 hours per shift, primarily covering the 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. timeframe

What You'll Do

  • Provide warm, personalized service to every customer
  • Help customers find the right size, fit, style, and coverage
  • Conduct thoughtful, confidence-building fit consultations
  • Recommend swimwear, cover-ups, accessories, and complete beach looks
  • Build genuine relationships with customers and encourage repeat visits
  • Stay knowledgeable about Nani Nalu collections, fabrics, fits, and sizing
  • Create a welcoming, body-positive shopping environment
  • Assist with merchandising, inventory, and maintaining an organized and beautiful store
  • Support online or private shopping appointments when needed
  • Help create a fun, elevated, and memorable Nani Nalu experience

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Loves fashion, styling, and helping people feel confident
  • Has a natural ability to connect with customers
  • Is comfortable discussing fit, sizing, coverage, and personal preferences with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Has excellent communication and listening skills
  • Is confident making styling recommendations
  • Is positive, approachable, energetic, and detail-oriented
  • Enjoys working in a boutique, customer-focused environment
  • Can work independently while being a supportive team member
  • Has retail, fashion, styling, personal shopping, or customer-service experience — but we're happy to train the right person

If you're someone who can turn a fitting-room experience into a confidence boost, loves connecting with people, and has a genuine eye for style, we'd love to meet you.
