Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance, EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support, HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. Campus Maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the University through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair.
Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,668 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$2,334 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,334 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.

Maintenance, installation and repair of plumbing systems and components on existing building systems and components.
* A valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
*Ability to acquire a back flow certification within the first year of employment.
May also be asked to earn CPO certification (Certified Pool Operator) within first year of employment as/if needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Management Preferences
Ability to perform plumbing trade at the journey level; working knowledge of State building and plumbing codes; ability to read and comprehend complex blueprints and plumbing schematics.
Capable of demonstrating Journey-level competencies in maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of facility components.
Have the ability to read and interpret blueprints and plumbing schematics and have a working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, regulations and best practices of the trade.
Experience working on a college campus, city/county school system, military base or municipas/county/state funded maintenance and/or public works department is preferred.
Ability to follow instructions, partner with others as/if needed and work independently on work assignments with minimal supervision when needed and willingness to respond to campus emergencies (i.e., building floods, asset protection response in inclement weather and/or campus protest situations, power outages, etc.) when called.
Required Licenses/Certifications
A valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Ability to acquire a back flow certification within the first year of employment.
May also be asked to earn CPO certification (Certified Pool Operator) within first year of employment as/if needed.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
High degree of hand/eye coordination and hand manipulation; ability to climb ladders and scaffolding; ability to move objects weighing at least 40 lbs. or more; and ability to work for extended periods of time with hands above head.
This position is designated as mandatory and requires the employee to report to work to support critical University operations during adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including public health emergencies or situations that may result in University closure.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS
The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
