OVERVIEW: The job is responsible for: Boca West Country Club is seeking a vigilant and responsible Lifeguard to ensure the safety and well-being of all pool patrons. The Lifeguard will monitor pool activity, enforce safety rules, respond to emergencies, and provide excellent customer service in a friendly and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Member and Guest Check-In and Greeting: Welcome members and guests as they arrive at the pool, manage check-in, verify guest lists, and answer questions to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
• Surveillance and Vigilance: Maintain constant surveillance of pools, surrounding areas, and patrons to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment, practicing vigilance to identify and prevent potential hazards.
• Lifesaving Response: Utilize American Red Cross Professional Lifeguard training to respond swiftly and effectively in emergencies, including performing water rescues, administering first aid, and using AED equipment as needed.
• Member & Guest Interaction: Provide exceptional customer service by assisting members and guests, answering questions, and promoting a welcoming environment.
• Policy Enforcement: Enforce all pool rules and safety guidelines to maintain order and prevent accidents.
• Daily Operations: Assist with opening, closing, and down duties, including setting up lifeguard stations, arranging pool furniture, conducting area checks, and ensuring all necessary tasks are completed for smooth daily operation.
• Daily Maintenance: Conduct regular checks of the pool area, including cleaning and arranging furniture, ensuring the pool deck is free from hazards, and maintaining cleanliness of the lifeguard stands and equipment.
• Facility Maintenance: Perform light maintenance duties to ensure a safe and welcoming pool environment, including arranging furniture, cleaning surfaces, and addressing any immediate upkeep needs.
• Inventory Maintenance: Monitor and restock poolside supplies, such as towels, first aid items, and rescue equipment, ensuring availability for both safety and guest convenience.
• Emergency Action Plan (EAP): Maintain a thorough understanding of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and be prepared to assist as directed in emergencies, ensuring swift and coordinated responses.
• Chemical Checks: Test pool chemicals and report any irregularities to the pool manager or maintenance team.
• Shift Communication: Attend pre-shift briefings with the lead lifeguard or shift supervisor to stay updated on daily events, weather conditions, and operational needs.
• Equipment Checks: Ensure that all rescue equipment, first aid supplies, and lifeguard stations are stocked, functional, and ready for use at the start of each shift.
• Certification Maintenance: Responsible for ensuring that lifeguard certifications remain active and up-to-date, and for completing any required recertification independently.
• Record Keeping: Complete shift reports, incident reports, and maintenance logs accurately and promptly.
• Rotation Adherence: Follow rotation schedules to maintain alertness, cover all areas effectively, and ensure pool safety without lapses.
• Support for Events: Assist with special events and programs by providing additional coverage and helping with setup or breakdown as needed.
• Ownership: Take personal responsibility for the cleanliness, safety, and overall readiness of the pool area. Actively address issues, communicate with team members, and look for ways to enhance the member and guest experience.
• Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure seamless operations, especially during high-traffic times and inclement weather.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
• Minimum Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Prior lifeguarding experience is a plus, particularly in high-traffic, luxury, or resort environments.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Training and Certification:
o Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification or equivalent.
o Knowledge of and adherence to American Red Cross Professional Lifeguard standards.
o Additional certification in Water Safety Instruction (WSI) or similar is a plus.
o Required to always maintain active certification, with recertification completed independently and on schedule.
