Description
The Wooten Company is seeking a team-focused, innovative Site Civil Project Engineer with strong storm water background to join our expanding Raleigh Civil Site Team working from our Winston Salem office.
Who are you?
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated civil engineer with a seasoned depth of experience successfully completing site development and minor roadway projects that include components of grading, drainage, storm water management and erosion control for both municipal and private clients. You are responsible, work well with a team and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences. You are eager to learn and grow professionally in your field.
What will you be doing?
Candidates can expect to work with a variety of stakeholders including land developers, owners, designers, and permitting agencies. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they work to create an exciting array of projects such as multi-family developments, downtown renovations, parks, and innovative storm water solutions for local municipalities. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to independently design projects that develop solutions to meet our client's needs, using the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders.
Who will you be working with?
The Site Civil Project Engineer can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina. Additionally, this person will regularly work with municipal and private clients, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to obtain a depth and breadth of civil engineering ability and to contribute to the growing presence of Wooten, in both the North and South Carolina regions.
Where will you be working?
This position would be working in our Winston-Salem, NC office, but for our Raleigh Civil Site team. Winston-Salem is one of the three cities of the North Carolina Piedmont Triad with Greensboro and High Point completing the trio. The City is home to a unique and thriving downtown along with the historic Old Salem. Our office is located within walking distance of Old Salem, a historic Moravian Community turned historic district with charming cobblestone roads and freshly made Moravian cookies. Our office is also walking distance to downtown including a variety of restaurants and the City of Winston-Salem municipal buildings. With a thriving artist community, plenty of outdoor parks, historical architecture, and great cost of living, the triad region is not only a great place to work, but a great place to call home.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain understanding of project phases from kick-off through close-out
  • Serve as technical lead to:
  • Perform preliminary engineering due diligence
  • Research applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Develop conceptual plans based on client needs
  • Complete engineering design calculations
  • Prepare construction plans and technical specifications
  • Design site, utility, grading/drainage, stormwater, erosion control, and roadway systems per local regulations
  • Prepare and obtain required permits
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external disciplines
  • Support project advertisement, bidding, and contracting
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders, including participation in project meetings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • 1-4 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment (preferred)
  • NC Licensed Professional Engineer (or if licensed outside NC, ability to obtain NC license within one year)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD - Civil 3D strongly preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong technical skills in site/roadway layout, grading, drainage, storm water management, utility, and erosion control design.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling preferred.
  • Writing and compiling storm water reports and/or narratives.
  • Experience with compiling project manuals.
  • Familiarity with limited construction administration and observation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to design team and clients.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at one time.
