About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for a Technician, Safety & Security to join our Thompson Creek team who will be accountable for controlling and monitoring site access and security, check-in and verification of contractors and visitors, and monitoring and directing incoming calls. They will also perform New Miner Training, perform onboarding classes and assist with filing paperwork.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform all required functions effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
  • Operation of the main communication hub for emergency notifications/situations.
  • Receiving incoming calls and transferring accordingly.
  • Monitoring multiple communication devices continuously while on duty.
  • Knowledge of the Mayday process, and response personnel on site.
  • Control access to the mine premises and monitor main gate cameras for security purposes.
  • Maintain accurate on site personnel attendance.
  • Learn and be familiar with employees, and employee's duties for relaying information.
  • Log all traffic in/out of the mine site, i.e. Contractors, vendors, deliveries, and visitors.
  • Provide basic site-specific awareness.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as needed, and randomly.
  • Weigh shipments onto/off the mine site, direct as needed.
  • Conduct onsite drug/alcohol testing.
  • Work independently; proficiency in computer skills.
  • Monitor/record purchases from the Company store. Must be safety conscious and abide by established safety rules and regulations.
  • Confidentiality is a must.
  • Be a self-starter and team-oriented, flexible, and able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents including safety rules, safety labels on chemicals, and procedure manuals (Security Procedure Manual).
  • Possess the skills and ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and interpersonal) with peers and supervision.
  • Be detail-orientated and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned to include onboarding training, new miner training, paperwork filing and assisting Health and Safety Representatives.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • EMT certification or desire to obtain is an asset.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work night shifts as needed.
