The Position:

  1. purpose of the Assistant Coach, Climbing is to provide leadership to a comprehensive climbing program which includes athletic training; coach mentoring; program planning; parent relations; and recruitment support. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in administering all aspects of the climbing program including planning practices, competition preparation, student development, and supporting recruitment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with the Head Coach to ensure that all recommended and current programs are effectively implemented.
  • Support the creation of and execute of all aspects of the training program to take place during the academic year. This will include both on and off wall sessions.
  • Support all aspects of the climbing program during the competitive season. This can include morning practices, weekend competitions and training sessions occurring Monday - Sunday.
  • Assist with student athlete recruitment as required.
  • Provide coverage for the Head Coach, Climbing and for the Climbing Coaches when they are not available or need additional support.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in kinesiology or Phys ed or related field
  • Climbing certifications are an asset
  • Superior knowledge of multiple climbing techniques
  • Coaching experience in designing and implementing programs at an elite level.
  • Proven leadership ability within a competitive team setting
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage/communicate effectively with student-athletes, administrators and public
  • OPHEA safety requirements for climbing

Workplace Requirements and Conditions:

  • Location: Climbers Rock, 5155 Harvester Rd, Burlington, and MacLachlan College, 2794 South Sheridan Way, Oakville Ontario
  • Travel as part of attending training, competitions and recruiting
  • Weekend and evening requirements for games and practices

The compensation range for this position is $46,000.00 to 62,000.00 per annum, based on years of experience.
