What does a productions manager do?

A Productions Manager oversees the entire production process in manufacturing or media, ensuring that operations run efficiently, safely, and on schedule. They coordinate between different departments, manage staff, allocate resources, and solve problems that arise during production. Additionally, they are responsible for quality control, budgeting, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Their role is critical to meeting production goals and maintaining product quality.

What are some common challenges faced by a productions manager, and how can they be addressed?

Productions Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing tight deadlines with limited resources, coordinating between multiple departments, and handling unexpected disruptions like equipment failures or supply chain delays. Effective communication, proactive planning, and strong problem-solving skills are essential for navigating these obstacles. Building strong relationships with team members and suppliers, as well as using project management tools, can help ensure smooth production workflows and minimize downtime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a productions manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Productions Manager, you need strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field, and relevant industry experience. Familiarity with production management software (such as ERP or MRP systems), lean manufacturing principles, and safety certifications is often required. Effective communication, adaptability, and the ability to motivate teams are essential soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient production processes, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high quality and safety standards.

The Opportunity

Product Management in AI-Enabled EHR Platform Innovation

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to help advance AI-enabled capabilities that enhance and modernize our Electronic Health Record (EHR) and platform systems. This role will manage assigned product capabilities across the product lifecycle, from discovery and requirements through delivery, launch, measurement, and iteration.

The Product Manager will work generally independently and collaboratively with Engineering, Architecture, Clinical, Analytics, User Experience, and business stakeholders to translate customer, operational, technical, and regulatory needs into clear product priorities. Success in this role requires strong product judgment, technical curiosity, healthcare technology knowledge, and the ability to manage moderately complex to complex product initiatives in a regulated software environment.

What You Will Do

Product Strategy and Lifecycle Management

  • Manage the lifecycle of assigned AI-enabled EHR and platform product capabilities from discovery through launch, measurement, and iteration.

  • Conduct product research to understand customer needs, clinician workflows, operational pain points, new technologies, market context, and competitive trends.

  • Develop product concepts, requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics.

  • Contribute to roadmap planning for assigned product areas in partnership with product leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Translate product strategy into actionable delivery plans that balance user value, technical feasibility, regulatory needs, and business impact.

  • Use product metrics, operational insights, user research, and stakeholder feedback to inform priorities and improve product outcomes.

  • Participate in product development activities, including analysis, design, testing, integration, launch readiness, and post-launch measurement.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Architecture, Security, DevOps, Analytics, and User Experience to define, deliver, and improve assigned product capabilities.

  • Lead cross-functional discussions for assigned initiatives, including problem definition, requirements alignment, prioritization, tradeoffs, and delivery readiness.

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Identify dependencies, risks, and open decisions early, and escalate when broader alignment is needed.

  • Support team alignment by maintaining clear product documentation, decision records, and delivery expectations.

Technical, Platform, and Compliance Focus

  • Apply knowledge of EHR systems, interoperability standards, healthcare workflows, and platform considerations to product decisions.

  • Partner with technical teams to evaluate moderate to complex technical and business tradeoffs.

  • Help ensure assigned product capabilities support healthcare regulatory, compliance, privacy, and data security expectations.

  • Monitor product performance, adoption, quality, and usability after launch, and recommend improvements based on measurable outcomes.

What You Will Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of product management experience, preferably in healthcare IT, EHR, platform, interoperability, AI-enabled software, or other complex technical products.

  • Experience managing product capabilities through the full product lifecycle, including discovery, requirements, delivery, launch, and iteration.

  • Strong understanding of customer needs, user research, product requirements, functional specifications, and roadmap management.

  • Ability to work generally independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience contributing to moderately complex or complex product initiatives.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to use data, user insights, operational feedback, and stakeholder input to guide product decisions.

  • Experience working in agile product development environments.

  • Comfortable operating within complex technical, regulatory, and organizational systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of related product management experience.

  • Experience with EHR systems, healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 or FHIR, healthcare data workflows, or regulated software environments.

  • Experience with AI-enabled products, platform modernization, clinical workflows, or healthcare automation.

  • Experience leading cross-functional product work for complex technical or business initiatives.

  • Experience partnering directly with clients, users, clinicians, or operational stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
