Description:

The Production Planner/Scheduler is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules for a custom manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all build orders are planned, sequenced, and executed efficiently to meet customer delivery dates while optimizing labor and material resources. The position requires close collaboration with engineering, purchasing, production, and quality teams to adapt schedules to changing priorities in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling & Planning
  • Develop detailed production schedules for custom jobs based on customer orders, engineering designs, and material availability.
  • Sequence jobs to optimize workflow, minimize downtime, and balance workloads across production areas.
  • Update schedules daily to reflect changes in priorities, resources, or order specifications.
  • Order Management
  • Review new work orders for accuracy, completeness, and feasibility.
  • Coordinate with engineering to verify build specifications and resolve technical issues before production release.
  • Track work orders through all stages to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Material Coordination
  • Work with purchasing to ensure all materials and components are available before scheduled production dates.
  • Adjust schedules proactively when material shortages or delays occur.
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between production, sales, and project management for scheduling updates.
  • Communicate schedule changes promptly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in daily production meetings to review progress, address issues, and adjust priorities.
  • Performance Monitoring
  • Track and report on key metrics such as on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and production throughput.
  • Identify bottlenecks and work with operations to implement process improvements.


Requirements:
  • Education:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience in a custom manufacturing scheduling role will be considered.
  • Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in production planning/scheduling, preferably in a custom build, job shop, or engineer-to-order environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for scheduling and work order management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in scheduling tools, spreadsheets, and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
