THE DIFFERENCE YOU WILL MAKE
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Operations Manager is to manage and oversee the shift functions within the distribution center in establishing and maintaining efficient and effective processes in the flow of merchandise in and out of the facility. The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for assuring growth, diversification and learning among all Operations team members
CORE FUNCTIONS OF THIS ROLE
  • Assists with the management of operational activities of the distribution center (DC) to manage and improve the flow of inventory in and out of the facility. Includes cross dock, receiving, picking, packing, shipping, transportation, cycle counts and others
  • Oversees Night Hawk prep to ensure timely departure and proper weight
  • Responsible for Cycle counting to keep DC current
  • Oversees the prep for filling order for next day's deliveries
  • Support and drive operational changes and build a "learning" culture where all employees are informed and educated on new procedures
  • Communicates with Customer Service and handles Detroit Ops emails
  • Assist Operations Manager with recruiting, training, coaching, developing, and leading all employees to encourage professional growth and great performance.
  • Ability to manage operations to meet productivity and safety targets
  • Provide feedback to employees to foster open communication and support the retention of great employees
  • Collaborate on staffing levels and productivity to achieve and maintain a cost-effective operation
  • Coordinate and communicate with other divisions and support departments and stores to ensure that the right product is in the right place at the right time
  • Set expectations and hold team accountable for efficient and effective movement of inventory to ensure timely delivery and accurate inventory
  • Assist the Operations Manager in the annual performance evaluation process with input and suggestions for improved performance, skills gaps and opportunities for training, attendance, participation in and recognition of safety, and others
  • Assist Operations Manager with employee relations issues from onset through to solutions and resolution
  • Promote a team environment and Millcraft's core values in support of a healthy workplace where employees have every opportunity to grow, diversity and learn
  • Provide training for, oversee, and maintain compliance with Millcraft's safety procedures and OSHA guidelines. Ensure proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Assure all employees are trained in the use of all equipment
  • Prevent workplace incidents and injuries through training, safe work standards, a clean workplace free from debris and litter, and others. Participate in and/or oversee first reports of injury, investigations, assessing root causes, and implementing necessary improvements in supporting a safe work environment
  • Identify, address and provide solutions to logistical challenges and problems.
  • Assist in managing agency employee's timecards
  • Support the effective use of Millcraft's ERP system and provide training and re-training to all operations employees
  • Other duties and projects as assigned
  • Follow all Millcraft policies, procedures, and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook and departmental SOPs
  • Ensure a safe working environment by strictly following all safety protocols and standards including reporting unsafe conditions, near-misses and incidents immediately to your manager
  • Demonstrate the Millcraft Core Values (Family, Responsible, Passion, Deliver, Aspire and FUN) in day-to-day work and interactions
  • Other duties as needed for the business.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Technically oriented. Daily use of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word. Warehousing - advanced warehouse systems highly preferred including RF scanner
  • Effective time management, organizational, motivating, and influencing skills
  • Ability to multi-task - we run a lean operation and this skill is essential
  • Great interpersonal skills - relationship building
  • Understanding of and ability to amass followership
  • Great listener; great communicator
  • Proven commitment to safety and wellness in the workplace
  • Ability to travel - minimal
  • Ability to lift to 70 lbs. and participate in manual activities - for training purposes and other
  • Associates degree preferred
  • 3 years of management/supervisor experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift items that weigh a minimum of 50lbs regularly
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to bend, stoop and climb repetitiously throughout the day

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by a Millcraft Paper Company employee in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Additional requirements include the ability to navigate about, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, see, hear, and listen in order to fully perform the functions of this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is based in a distribution facility. Most of the work is done within the DC or an adjacent office or cubical. The work environment is moderately noisy to noisy. Floors are generally concrete. Safety-toed shoes are required. Temperature fluctuates based on seasonality
