Summary

Directs and coordinates the production of company product(s) in the absence of the Production Manager by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. When Production Manager is on site, the Assistant follows and supports the manager's direction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following.

  • Provides on the job guidance and training to Foreman.
  • Enforces safety policies with Foremen and production employees.
  • Coordinates personnel management with Human Resources department.
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise the plant employees when the Production Manager is unavailable. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent. One-year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have strong and clear communication skills
  • Problem solving and analytical skills along with an ability to lead a large team
  • Must be flexible enough to work under stringent deadlines and high work pressure on a regular basis.
