What does a production intern do?

A Production Intern assists in various aspects of the production process for film, television, theater, or other media projects. Their responsibilities often include supporting the crew, helping with equipment setup, managing schedules, organizing props or costumes, and handling administrative tasks. Production Interns gain hands-on experience, learn about the workflow on set, and often contribute to creative or logistical tasks as needed. This role is ideal for those looking to start a career in media production and develop industry connections.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a production intern?

To thrive as a Production Intern, you need a foundational understanding of production processes, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn, often supported by coursework or experience in media, film, or related fields. Familiarity with production equipment, editing software (such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro), and basic office tools is typically expected. Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and effective communication help interns excel in fast-paced, collaborative environments. These skills ensure you can efficiently support the production team, adapt to changing needs, and contribute to the successful completion of projects.

What types of projects and tasks can a production intern expect to handle on a daily basis?

As a Production Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of tasks that support the production team, such as assisting with equipment setup, organizing shoot schedules, preparing call sheets, and coordinating with crew members. You may also help with on-set logistics, manage props or wardrobe, and handle administrative duties like logging footage or processing paperwork. This hands-on experience provides valuable insight into the workflow of a production team and offers opportunities to learn from experienced professionals while developing essential industry skills.
