Job Summary:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Foundry Manager is responsible for materials procurement, employee supervision and training, scrap reduction, plant maintenance, and implementing plans. They ensure consistent product quality by keeping specifications in mind while reducing costs and increasing productivity.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Ensure adherence to/compliance with company policies, rules, and regulations relating to safety/health, performance standards, procedures, processes, and training requirements

· Leads and directs all foundry operations to meet the performance goals of the company through appropriate management and delegation to Supervisors and Hourly Paid personnel

· Actively seek ways to reduce costs in the department and improve working practices. Reports on production activities and performance with detailed cost analysis. Provide periodic updates and reports as requested by management

· Oversees all aspects of the Melt Department, including planning and advising on the weekly melting program

· Provide Supervisory cover across the Melting, Molding, and Heat Treatment areas should the need arise

· Establish production schedules, weekly personnel schedules, and labor requirements to achieve production goals and objectives

· Collaborate with the General Manager to plan departmental workflow in order to achieve long-term goals established by senior management

· Acts as a liaison with Human Resources to establish and retain positive employee relations

· Review and analyze production, quality control, production shortfalls, and operating concerns for remediation and implementation of appropriate corrective action

· Schedules and coordinates necessary employee training

· Carry out management responsibilities per the organization’s policies and procedures

· Directly supervises employees; monitors work quality, including conducting performance appraisals and providing counseling for improving performance

· Produces detailed Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work procedures

Physical and Mental Efforts:

General: Extensive mobility required; some moderate-to-heavy lifting. The position requires the ability to occasionally lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds, as well as to walk and stand for extended periods. It also requires the ability to see objects up close and hear normal sounds in the presence of some background noise. The position requires the ability to concentrate despite some interruptions and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.

Job Qualifications:

Education: BS Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science Engineering.


Experience: Six years of manufacturing experience in the foundry industry.


Skills: Specific activities that directly reflect supervisor performance include process improvements, understanding and enforcing standardization, and a complete working knowledge of Foundries. They will facilitate employee involvement activities, understand safety/environmental policies and procedures, and comply with all production operations. They will establish priorities and sequences for foundries in the event of unforeseen downtime, work as a team member with quality, maintenance, and production control, and continuously improve safety.
