Job Description

NBC's Nightly News is looking for a driven, detail-oriented Production Assistant to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a motivated early-career journalist to learn the core skills of broadcast news production and contribute to our flagship program, which delivers trusted journalism to millions of viewers every weekend.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who thrives under deadline and has a deep interest in a career in journalism. You'll work closely with producers, editors, and the control room team to support the broadcast from pitch to air.

Responsibilities:     

  • Assist producers with logging media, shooting elements, finding file video and clearing new imagery for news-of-day and feature spots
  • Assist with production at shoots (coordinate, organize and provide editorial guidance)
  • Learn Avid and develop desk edit skills to cut VO’s and Teases for broadcast
  • Desk edit digital cuts of Nightly stories for NBCNews.com
  • Assist show production team in the control room and studio during the broadcast
  • Pitch, research and develop stories for Nightly News broadcasts
  • Predict and fulfill additional needs to Executive Producer and Nightly News Rim
  • Willingness and availability to work a weekend schedule and additional hours, at short notice as needed, for breaking news to help update the broadcast
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of news production experience at the network level, preferably with an evening news broadcast
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
  • Must be able to shoot and expected to edit on desktop 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, iNews, and major social media platforms
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news; ability to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice, if needed
