Job Overview:
Quality Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring that products and processes within our gate manufacturing and water control systems meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability. This position will focus on process improvement, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions to maintain compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. The Quality Engineer will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance overall product performance and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Control
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards, procedures, and metrics for gate manufacturing and water control systems.
  • Conduct inspections and audits of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Establish and maintain control plans, process documentation, and inspection criteria to support consistent product quality.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance data, identifying trends and implementing solutions to prevent recurring issues.
Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead investigations of nonconformities, customer complaints, and internal quality concerns using structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA, DMAIC).
  • Coordinate and document corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address quality issues and ensure long-term resolution.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements that enhance production efficiency and product reliability.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001, AWWA standards for water control systems).
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required for quality audits and customer approvals.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and complete documentation.
Supplier Quality Management
  • Work with suppliers to establish quality expectations and resolve issues with incoming materials.
  • Perform supplier audits and assessments to ensure consistent material quality and compliance.
Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Train production and inspection personnel on quality procedures and standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve process capability, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to support operational excellence.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing, preferably within heavy equipment, metal fabrication, or water control systems.

  • Familiarity with AWWA standards and specifications for gates, valves, and water control structures preferred.
Skills & Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and or quality software systems (e.g., Minitab, ERP systems).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or working toward certification.
  • Certified Welding Inspection (CWI) highly preferred
  • Certifications such as ASQ or Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • Experience in custom, project-based, or job-shop manufacturing environments.
