At Freddie Mac, our mission of Making Home Possible is what motivates us, and it's at the core of everything we do. Since our charter in 1970, we have made home possible for more than 90 million families across the country. Continue your career journey where your work contributes to a greater purpose.

Position Overview

The Loan Product Strategist is a director-level role that will set strategy and drive business performance for a portfolio of mortgage products. This includes identifying market needs, developing product strategies, building business cases, guiding implementation, tracking performance, and recommending enhancements based on market trends, research and customer feedback. The role requires deep expertise in mortgage origination, underwriting, secondary markets, capital markets execution, and housing finance policy, as well as the ability to influence senior executives and lead complex enterprise initiatives.

Our Impact:

The Loan Product Strategy team optimizes Freddie Mac's loan products and develops new offerings that create enterprise value, improve borrower experiences and outcomes, and expand affordable, accessible homeownership solutions through responsible product design.

Your Impact

As a loan product strategist, you will identify market opportunities, shape and execute loan product strategies, and ensure Freddie Mac's loan products remain competitive, mission-focused, and aligned with business objectives. You will partner across the enterprise to convert market opportunities into product enhancements or new offerings that benefit borrowers and create value for lenders, investors, and Freddie Mac. Through thoughtful strategy and execution, you will advance Freddie Mac's mission by improving housing market accessibility and sustainability, enhancing borrower experiences, supporting homeownership lending solutions, reducing friction, streamlining operations, and strengthening enterprise profitability.

Product Strategy

  • Propose product strategies that advance Freddie Mac's mission and strengthen market competitiveness.
  • Translate lender needs, market gaps, and industry trends into actionable loan product optimization opportunities.
  • Influence product lifecycle decisions that improve adoption, profitability, performance, and long-term value.

Product Development & Enterprise Execution

  • Lead cross-functional teams through the evaluation, design, approval, implementation, and launch of new mortgage products and enhancements.
  • Recommend strategic enhancements based on market shifts, customer feedback, and competitive insights.
  • Partner across the enterprise to execute loan product strategies and enhancements, fostering alignment across Operations, Credit, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Capital Markets, Sales, and Servicing on execution and delivery.

Product Performance Management

  • Assess mortgage products in the Single-Family Acquisitions Division, lead recurring product reviews, and recommend expansion, repositioning, or rightsizing as needed.
  • Influence enterprise alignment around loan product objectives, performance metrics, adoption targets, and portfolio key performance indicators (KPIs).

Executive Leadership

  • Develop executive recommendations grounded in quantitative analysis, market intelligence, financial analysis, and strategic assessment.
  • Present product strategies, loan product optimization recommendations, and performance updates to senior leaders.
  • Lead enterprise initiatives that require alignment across senior leaders from multiple business divisions.

Industry Leadership

  • Partner with various teams to engage Sellers through Freddie Mac forums, including Seller Advisory Councils, the Credit Advisory Board, on-site Seller visits, and industry events.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in mortgage product design and development.
  • Represent Freddie Mac at industry events and forums by sharing insights and engaging with housing finance peers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in Single-Family mortgage finance, including loan product strategy or management, secondary mortgage market and capital markets.
  • 7+ years of experience leading strategic initiatives, enterprise programs, or mortgage product development and optimization from concept through implementation.
  • Deep knowledge of residential mortgage origination, underwriting, servicing, secondary markets, and mortgage economics.
  • Proven ability to influence executives and lead large cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to engage diverse partners effectively.
  • Strategic mindset with a track record of driving change and innovation in mortgage product practices.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Keys to Success in this Role:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in:

  • Mortgage product strategy, development, lifecycle management, and managing profitability.
  • Secondary mortgage market pricing and best-execution strategies, loan economics, and MBS fundamentals.
  • Underwriting, mortgage insurance, and credit performance analysis.
  • Freddie Mac commitment and delivery processes, loan origination technology tools, and the Seller/Servicer Guide.
