Job description

Location/Travel: Fully onsite in Edmond, OK, with approximately 25% travel, primarily domestic and typically up to 1 week per month for customer training, visits, and industry events. International travel may be required over time but is not expected during the first 6 months.
Relocation assistance is available on a case-by-case basis.
KORE1, a nationwide provider of staffing and recruiting solutions, has an immediate opening for a Semiconductor Applications & Product Development Engineer - Die & Packaging
Our client, a global provider of precision sample-preparation equipment for semiconductor failure analysis and advanced materials research, is seeking an Applications Engineer to support its Applications and Product Development efforts.
This role serves as a critical bridge between engineering, sales, and customers-applying deep technical expertise to develop sample-preparation methodologies, support customer success, and contribute to ongoing product innovation across the company's equipment and consumables portfolio. The successful candidate will combine hands-on laboratory work with confident customer engagement, technical writing, and an R&D mindset. The role requires an independent, curious problem-solver who can interpret data, determine the next course of action when the path is not defined, and retain and communicate detailed technical product knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize sample-preparation methods for a wide range of materials, including semiconductors, metals, ceramics, and coatings, with primary emphasis on semiconductor applications.
  • Perform hands-on sample preparation, including cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and related laboratory techniques.
  • Prepare customer samples to support pre-sales evaluations, demonstrations, application feasibility assessments, solution development, and global sales initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Sales to support customer opportunities and clearly communicate technically sound recommendations.
  • Deliver onsite and remote customer training on equipment operation, methodologies, and best practices, including multi-day training programs.
  • Provide post-sales technical support and troubleshooting via phone, email, and virtual sessions.
  • Contribute to new product development through research, process development, testing, validation, data interpretation, and feedback to engineering.
  • Apply critical thinking and root-cause analysis to independently investigate technical challenges, interpret results, and determine next steps when a defined answer or playbook is not available.
  • Document application methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical application notes, white papers, scientific publications, posters, and other technical materials.
  • Identify application gaps, market trends, and opportunities for new products or consumables.
  • Maintain and manage application data, images, test results, and technical documentation for internal and customer use.
  • Travel approximately 20-30% to support customer visits, training, global sales initiatives, and industry events.

Job Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Semiconductor knowledge is required, including familiarity with semiconductor devices, die-level processes, packaging, manufacturing, or related research. Semiconductor-focused university research experience is acceptable.
  • Understanding of semiconductor failure-analysis environments and how prepared samples move into downstream analysis is a plus; direct semiconductor failure-analysis experience is not required.
  • Hands-on aptitude and willingness to perform general sample-preparation work, including cutting, mounting, grinding, and polishing.
  • Experience with materials characterization, metrology, analytical measurement, SEM, FIB, or similar failure-analysis laboratory equipment is a plus.
  • Strong critical-thinking, creative problem-solving, data-interpretation, and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to work independently and make progress without step-by-step direction.
  • R&D mindset with the tenacity, curiosity, and initiative to research unfamiliar problems, test possible solutions, learn new instrumentation, and improve products and processes.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence and professionalism to explain complex technical concepts clearly and engage effectively with customers, Sales, Engineering, and other internal teams.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop clear technical documentation and application notes. Experience with peer-reviewed papers, white papers, conference posters, a thesis, or other scientific publications is a plus.
  • Experience working in an applications laboratory, pre-sales applications engineering, customer training, or another customer-facing technical role is a plus.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and accurately communicate detailed technical product knowledge.
  • Willingness to balance hands-on execution, customer-facing work, technical support, product development, and technical writing as business needs change.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency and the ability to travel internationally. An active passport is a plus; candidates must be able to obtain one within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in Edmond, OK and travel approximately 20-30%. Relocation assistance is available on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation depends on experience but is typically $80-100K; however, we are willing to send qualified candidates over-budget.
