Job description

Product Development Engineer – Asia Manufacturing (Mandarin-Speaking)


Location: Onsite or Hybrid (Travel Required)


Job Summary


We are looking for a hands-on Product Development Engineer with a strong background in mechanical and/or electrical engineering and experience working directly with overseas manufacturers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and sourcing cost-effective product solutions based on customer requests. This person will work closely with suppliers—primarily in China and other parts of Asia—to manage the full product development cycle from concept to production.


Responsibilities


  • Review customer product requests and specifications and identify viable manufacturing solutions
  • Collaborate directly with manufacturers in China/Asia to develop or reverse-engineer products
  • Work step-by-step with factories to ensure product quality, pricing, and delivery timelines
  • Conduct cost analysis and source alternate materials or production methods as needed
  • Coordinate sampling, revisions, and compliance testing
  • Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and contract terms with international suppliers
  • Travel to Asia for factory visits, sample approvals, and supplier relationship management


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in product development or engineering roles
  • Must speak Mandarin fluently (spoken and written)
  • Proven experience working with international manufacturers, especially in China
  • Strong understanding of product cost structures, prototyping, and production scaling
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with consumer goods, industrial products, or hardware
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and manufacturing compliance standards
  • Prior experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
