Wieland is hiring a Product Development Engineer. The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for supporting and optimizing the fabrication department through the development and coordination of all fabrication processes including tooling, maintenance, machine improvements, and personnel. This role is located in Duncansville, PA and will be fully on-site. 


Product Development Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Leadership Responsibilities: 
    • Requires close collaboration and coordination with operators, engineers, and production supervisors to achieve departmental and site goals.
    • Contribute to the ongoing development of the fabrication department personnel through mentoring, training and best-practice sharing.
    • This position ensures that new product launches meet deadlines, tooling projects are completed accurately and on schedule, and fabrication operations run efficiently. The coordinator also maintains accurate documentation, supports new equipment research, and contributes to continuous improvement and growth within the department.
  • Tooling Coordination:
    • Ensure all tooling, jigs, and fixtures are built, repaired, and maintained according to production, quality standards, and customers’ requirements.
    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to verify tooling readiness for new and existing products.
    • Create and maintain a detailed catalog of all tooling to support efficient organization, identification, and tracking.
  • New Product & Equipment Integration:
    • Support new product launches by ensuring all necessary tooling and process documentation are completed on time. Aid Fab Customer Service Representative with technical questions related to tooling and prints.
    • Assist in research and evaluation of new machine additions, including reviewing specifications, tooling compatibility, and production impact.
  • Production Tracking & Documentation:
    • Maintain and update production tickets to reflect accurate part information, tooling requirements, and process updates.
    • Track and record run rates to monitor efficiency and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):
    • Work with the Operational Coordinator to update and maintain all fabrication-related SOPs.
    • Ensure SOPs accurately reflect current production processes, tooling setups, and quality standards.
  • Machine Optimization:
    • Analyze fabrication processes to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions for improving production speed, safety, and quality.
    • Assist in the implementation of machine programming to support efficient and consistent production.
  • Continuous Improvement & Department Growth:
    • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance fabrication efficiency, quality, and safety.

Product Development Engineer Qualifications:

  • Associates degree, technical diploma or equivalent experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of tube fabrication processes, tooling, and machine operation.
  • Experience with blueprint reading, CAD models, and tooling design preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet production deadlines.
