Employment Status: Full Time/Non Exempt (40hours/week)

Salary: $62,938/ year

Location: New York City, 4 days in the office and 1 day remote

Position Overview

The Senior Development Associate, under the supervision of the Director of Development, manages key departmental functions that will enable the team to optimize efficiency and grow revenue. This role carries a high degree of responsibility, and the opportunity to both take the lead and work collaboratively on cross-department projects to renew existing support and bring in new sources of funding. The Senior Development Associate oversees donor services, including inquiry management and acknowledgements; leads data tracking and reporting; conducts research on prospective funders; coordinates event logistics including for the annual gala; and manages the submission of reports and proposals for foundation and government contracts.

The ideal candidate will have sophisticated administrative skills, outstanding attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects independently, and professional interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Grant Administration & Data Oversight

  • Maintain and audit donor profiles, communications history, and gifts/grant awards in Salesforce, and ensure digital files in Google Drive are up to date.
  • Coordinate with the Finance team to reconcile incoming checks and bank deposits with Salesforce records to ensure all payments are accurately coded.
  • Oversee the timely submission of acknowledgment letters, invoices, and administrative documentation for individual gifts and grant payments.
  • Manage a dynamic development calendar to ensure all internal and external reporting deadlines are documented and shared with relevant team members.
  • Generate essential Salesforce reports, including campaign performance, donor segmentations, board "give/get" tracking, and pledge receivables.
  • Identify and implement improvements to Salesforce workflows and data entry protocols to increase team efficiency.
  • Perform similar development and administrative functions for affiliated organizations, including the 501(c)4 political arm, NYIC Action.

Funder Relations & Pipeline Development

  • Conduct independent research to identify new funding opportunities from individuals and foundations.
  • Develop outreach messaging and communications for prospective donors to build the funding pipeline.
  • Manage the drafting of proposals, Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), and reports, coordinating closely with team members to ensure that funder requirements and internal standards are met.
  • Manage a small portfolio of donors or prospects, conducting direct outreach and personalized stewardship.
  • Prepare briefing memos for the Development Team and leadership ahead of donor meetings or site visits.

Event & General Support

  • Support for fundraising events logistics, including preparation and production of event materials, vendor relations, and operational setups for the NYIC's annual gala, and other cultivation events.
  • Support the execution of outreach strategies designed to engage, cultivate, and steward relationships.
  • Proactively address other development tasks as needed to support the growth of the organization.
  • Occasionally carries or moves materials weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g. event supplies or signage).

Qualities Sought:

  • Must have 2-3 years of professional experience with development and administration.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines with a high-level accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and effective materials for proposals, reports and funder outreach.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, a self-starter who takes initiative.
  • Experience using CRM database systems, like Salesforce, and project management platforms, like Asana, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to social justice and/or immigrant rights is a significant plus.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

Salary: $62,938**

**The NYIC has a transparent and equitable salary structure. Starting salaries for each position are set in advance with no room for negotiation.
