Job description

Job Title: Design and Manufacturing Development Engineer
Reports to: Operations Officer
Job Type: Salary-Exempt
Location: 6807 W Little York Rd, Houston TX 77040
SUMMARY
Performs Engineering tasks as assigned, which may include reviewing incoming orders for engineering requirements, preparing BOMs, drawings and specifications, updating and maintaining drawing library, production planning, product design and manufacturing development, product testing and special projects. This job will integrate skills and competencies within the company group.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Understand and demonstrate knowledge of basic sheet metal and fabrication processes
o Including but not limited to press brake operations, rolling, punching shearing, welding, cutting and fastening
Processes incoming orders (review technical package and quotation)
Outline design needs and documentation and related updates
Outline and review special process needs
Verifies part numbers and all required data with Engineering Supervisor.
Links drawings and technical data
Reviews any questions prior to forwarding to planning (Eng. Tech may be the planner)
Signs Routing Stamp
Develops active Solidworks library of all current production parts and assemblies
Develops layouts and arrangement drawings for Sales and Marketing.
Completes processing of engineering package and submits to the next required reviewer
Designs new products
Edits all products and red-line changes in document control
Tests products/designs as needed
Verify design by Inspection of incoming machines or fabricated products and final assemblies as needed
Charts and develops parts, BOMs and instructions as needed for product manufacture, use or modification.
Creates video or animated models as needed for use by Sales or Manufacturing or Management
Follow company safety & security guidelines
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
Upkeep and cleanliness of work areas
Other duties as determined by Management
REQUIRED CAD (SOLIDWORKS) (dominant work effort)
Designs new products as defined by Sales
Draws any required design and shop drawings in support of manufacturing, sales and product development
Draws finished drawings for product configurations
Must be Solidworks fluent in work scope for:
o Structural weldments
o Sheet Metal
o Large Assembly design
o Finite element Analysis
o Product Design
o Fluids experience a benefit
Compiles library of products and system arrangements
Works on special drawing/design projects.
Writes product manuals and specifications
SUPPORTS PRODUCTION
Draws flats for production processing (various formats)
Maintains Drawing Revision Levels
Maintains Links to drawings and technical data
Verifies all purchasing data in part numbers as required
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Engineering or Technical Product Design Degree
Experience/training in SolidWorks, or equivalent
1-2 years Solidworks (preferred)
Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
DESIRED ADDITIONAL TRAINING (to be provided, if necessary)
Global Shop training
Attend SolidWorks tutorial or class
