Summary of Job Purpose

The responsibilities of the Design Product Engineer (EIT) include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide structural designs for full range of precast products manufactured by the Precast Infrastructure plants including vaults, pipe, box culverts, catch basins, manholes, wingwalls and other precast concrete products as directed and under the supervision of the Director of Engineering.
  • Ability and initiative to become knowledgeable with design concepts and theory for all current products including vaults, pipe, box culverts, manholes and specialty precast.
  • Analyze civil plans and specifications to understand project requirements.
  • Prepare and review project specific CAD drawings.
  • Understand concrete mix designs and serve as a technical resource for the manufacturing plants as needed.
  • Assist in submittal preparation, submittal approval from Engineer and review production drawings.
  • Prepare and review bills of material (BOMs)
  • Support production with cost savings projects related to process or product design.
  • Communicate and support project sales representatives, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality teams on any design related questions and/or issues.
  • Engage with and participate in precast industry specific associations (MSPCA, APCA, NPCA, etc.) and work with engineers for public utilities, government entities, and other vendors.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic knowledge of ACI 318, AASHTO LRFD, and other applicable design codes.
  • Ability to use various computer programs, including AutoCAD, Solidworks, and MathCAD with a minimum of one year experience.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Structural/Civil Engineering from accredited university, Master of Science in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 1-year work experience in a professional environment, precast and/or manufacturing preferred.
  • E.I.T Certification (or the ability to obtain with 6 months of hire).
  • Preferred Concrete Design course.

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
