Job description

PURPOSE

This role is to provide mechanical application technical support for internal and external customers. This position requires creativity,ย innovation, product design knowledge, and product application evaluation and research. A successful candidate will be fluent in theย  aspects of design and problem-solving utilizing engineering first principles with an emphasis on system analysis, pneumaticย solutions, and mentoring of resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES


โ€ข Interpret internal and external customer requirements to meet desired outputs while suggesting alternatives.
โ€ข Conduct technical application evaluations to identify potential solutions or recommend alternatives to customer technicalย  inquiries by reviewing existing documentation and report results back to internal and external customers.
โ€ข Communicate technical knowledge and specification to an extended audience (technical and non-technical) of internal and external customers.
โ€ข Read and interpret pneumatic schematics.
โ€ข Troubleshoot pneumatic circuits.
โ€ข Review and interpret data utilizing corporate management system software that include CAD models and productย documentation.
โ€ข Perform guided and/or independent research on a variety of topics and provide summarized data results.
โ€ข Complete assigned tasks while providing suggestions for improving departmental processes.
โ€ข Hands on technical support for an extended audience (technical and non-technical) of internal and external customers.
โ€ข Participate on and/or lead teams to accomplish tasks, processes, and corporate directives.
โ€ข Travel mainly for the purpose of training, customer support, or trade shows. (Less than 25%)
โ€ข All other duties as assigned.
โ€ข Record daily activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT


โ€ข Capacity to work indoors in an office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environment.
โ€ข Ability to work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in a mechanical or technical engineering discipline, or the equivalent in appropriate education andย 
experience as determined by management utilizing internal SMC career development criteria.
โ€ข Novice understanding of the product development process.
โ€ข Competent understanding to apply project management principles, methodologies, and documentation.
โ€ข Novice understanding of CAE tools and results as applied to the product application process.
โ€ข Novice understanding of tolerance as it relates to design intent.
โ€ข Competent understanding of common industrial processes and/or controls.
โ€ข Competent understanding of material and component options by application.
โ€ข Competent understanding of schematics.
โ€ข Competent in conducting research using corporate resources.
โ€ข Fluent at efficient use of time to effectively plan and execute multiple duties.
โ€ข Fluent to utilize basic inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (Calipers, micrometers, flow meter, voltmeter, etc.)
โ€ข Competent to utilize advanced inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (microscopes, CMM, Contour/Roundnessย 
Measuring Instruments, etc.)
โ€ข Fluent ability to communicate utilizing corporate office software.
โ€ข Fluent ability to take verbal and/or written direction on tasks, training, or departmental / company policies.
โ€ข Fluent ability to communicate, in English, with internal and external customers tactfully and professionally.
โ€ข 4+ years (preferred) relevant work experience.
