Job Title: General Clerk- Produce

Department: Produce

Reports to: Produce Manager/ Assistant Produce Manager

Starting rate of pay: $16.25/hr

Position Summary: Merchandises produce items by organizing and displaying products, while providing customer service according to standard.


Job Duties:

- Greets customers when within ten feet and four seconds of contact.

- Performs basic cleaning of department, hourly checks of grocery floor to complete sweep & mop log

- Stocks and rotates produce items, while trimming items to maintain freshness and quality

- Removes damaged items from produce floor and records weight of damages for tracking

- Fulfills fruit basket orders, blows up balloons, adds ice to and cuts fruit to display in section

- Maintains sanitary standards in all areas, especially cutting melons

- Refills produce bags, bale empty boxes

- Performs some cashiering and bagging help when needed, register accuracy, knows/carries out proper register procedures

- Performs other related duties as needed as assigned by manager


Capabilities:

- Stand for long periods of time, very frequent walking back and forth from produce warehouse to produce floor

- Carry up to 60 pounds, push and pull up to 1000 pounds, frequent motions with arms/hands to display produce items

- Use of proper safety procedures

- Able to use knifes, wrapping machine, corn cutter, and pallet jacks

- Able to multitask, listen to directions and follow through independently

- Able to deal with difficult customers, have good communication and observation skills

- Able to work with a team and independently when needed


Job Skills:

- Previous experience working with the public

- Not afraid to use knives

- Working knowledge of produce codes required, while able to differentiate between different produce products required

- Basic knowledge of produce product preparation and uses


Environment:

- Air condition while in store, subject to outside conditions of heat, rain, and wind, chill temperatures when products need to be retrieved from chill

- Very fast paced


Other:

Must be at least 18 years of age to operate machinery
