PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To provide stocking support for Produce Department and maintain all displays and other areas of Produce Department in an orderly fashion and according to Company standards. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE: Primary emphasis in this position is on meeting daily needs in stocking, product rotation, customer assistance and load receiving in order to ensure maximum department sales and product availability. Primary learning challenge is product location, product knowledge and receiving procedures. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, listening skills, reading, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, usage of box cutter and exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Produce Manager or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform stocking
    • Ensure correct placement of stock and refilling of all displays
    • Rotate stock for freshness
    • Remove spoiled/damaged product from display
    • Assist in markdowns of old product
    • Straighten displays and build displays
    • Handle product carefully to avoid damage
    • Fill and maintain cooled displays
    • Handle all designated pull-down items in the evening
  • Receive product
    • Check product received for correct type and amount
    • Check product for freshness and damage
    • Properly sort stock and load onto cart in stable manner, then move to proper area for stocking
    • Code and date all product
  • Assist customers with questions or requests
    • Take special orders
    • Answer department phone calls and question in a timely and consistent manner
    • Refer customers to the proper area or individual for help
  • Perform cleaning of sales floor/backroom/cooler
    • Sweep, mop and organize backroom
    • Clean/sanitize utensils used
    • Clean spills
    • Properly dispose and separate cardboard and garbage
    • Utilize personal protective devices (safety glasses, cut resistant gloves) as instructed
  • Perform cutting and wrapping and prepare greens
    • Prepare pre-cut fruit display
  • Prepare fresh made juice
    • Prepare and blend fresh juice to meet Sendik’s Fine Foods qualifications
    • Ensure that all juice products are fully stocked
    • Clean and sanitize equipment only when unplugged; unplugged cord must be visible and under your control
  • Assist with produce resets
  • Follow all store and department policies and procedures
