What does a produce lead do?

A Produce Lead is responsible for overseeing the produce section in a grocery store or supermarket. Their duties include managing inventory, ensuring the freshness and quality of fruits and vegetables, merchandising displays, and supervising produce staff. They also help with ordering stock, maintaining cleanliness, and providing customer service. The Produce Lead plays a key role in ensuring that customers have access to fresh, appealing produce and that the department operates efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a produce lead, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Produce Lead, you need a solid understanding of fresh produce handling, inventory management, and retail merchandising, typically supported by experience in grocery or produce departments. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, ordering software, and food safety certifications such as ServSafe is often required. Strong leadership, organizational skills, and effective communication are important soft skills for managing teams and ensuring excellent customer service.
