Job description

Lawson Lundell LLP is a leading regional Canadian business law firm with offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary and Yellowknife. The firm is recognized and respected by its peers in legal and business publications and was named one of BC's Top Employers for 2026.

We are seeking a mid to senior level Litigation Legal Assistant to join our Litigation group in our Calgary office. The successful candidate is an enthusiastic and hardworking team player, regular working hours for this role are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Standard Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, format, and proofread legal correspondence, pleadings, court documents, and other litigation materials.
  • File court documents in accordance with Court of King's Bench and Court of Appeal rules and procedures.
  • Monitor, diarize, and manage limitation dates, court deadlines, and other critical dates.
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems, including bring-forward systems.
  • Assist with hearing, application, mediation, and trial preparation, including preparing materials and coordinating logistics.
  • Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, process servers, and other parties as directed.
  • Coordinate meetings, appointments, discoveries, court appearances, and related scheduling.
  • Enter lawyer's time, assist with billing, and prepare expense reports.
  • Provide overflow support to lawyers, legal assistants, and other team members as required.
  • Perform other administrative and legal assistant duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Legal Administrative Assistant certification from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a litigation-focused legal environment within a law firm.
  • Strong understanding of litigation processes, court rules, filing requirements, and court procedures.
  • Experience with Court of King's Bench and Court of Appeal filings and related procedural requirements.
  • Experience drafting, formatting, proofreading, and preparing litigation documents and legal correspondence.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft 365, document management systems, PDF software, and other legal technology tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative while exercising sound judgment.
  • Professional and client-service focused, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
