Procurement Manager

Position Summary

The Procurement Manager will oversee the sourcing and acquisition of goods and services, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with company policies. This role provides strategic leadership for procurement execution across the Donlin Gold Project, ensuring the timely acquisition of materials, equipment, and services necessary to support engineering, construction, and project delivery.

The Procurement Manager is responsible for optimizing purchasing processes, managing supplier relationships, and supporting strategic business objectives. This position requires strong negotiation skills, analytical capabilities, extensive supply chain experience, and the ability to lead procurement activities across multiple EPCm organizations while effectively managing commercial risk, supplier performance, and project schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project objectives, execution plans, cost targets, and schedule requirements.
  • Lead procurement activities for major equipment, materials, and services from planning through contract award and final delivery.
  • Establish procurement execution plans, sourcing strategies, bid packages, and evaluation criteria.
  • Direct supplier prequalification, competitive bidding, bid evaluations, commercial negotiations, and award recommendations.
  • Negotiate contracts that optimize cost, quality, delivery, and commercial risk.
  • Monitor and evaluate market-sector supply and demand for critical and long-lead equipment.
  • Manage procurement schedules for long-lead equipment and critical materials.
  • Monitor supplier performance, manufacturing progress, quality, logistics, and delivery commitments, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and maintain strategic supplier relationships.
  • Coordinate procurement activities across EPCm contractors to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project controls, construction, logistics, contracts, and operations to support project milestones.
  • Review technical and commercial evaluations to ensure best-value procurement decisions.
  • Develop procurement budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and cost analyses.
  • Ensure procurement documentation complies with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Identify procurement and supply chain risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Resolve supplier disputes, commercial claims, and contractual issues.
  • Provide procurement metrics, forecasts, and executive reports to Project Leadership.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop procurement personnel while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with safety, environmental, ethical sourcing, and corporate governance standards.
  • Develop and implement related governance, procedures, and reporting metrics as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of procurement experience, including at least five years supporting mining or large-scale construction projects.
  • Professional certification such as CPM or CPSM is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting EPCm execution on major mining, energy, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge related to import/export customs and tariff requirements.
  • Experience leading a team of procurement personnel.
  • Mining industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracting, logistics, Incoterms, and supply chain risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-value procurement packages simultaneously.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, procurement teams, and procurement budgets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, project controls, contracts, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, suppliers, contractors, and EPCm partners.
  • Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple procurement activities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to evaluate technical, commercial, schedule, and risk considerations when making procurement decisions.

Working Conditions

This position may require work in both office and project-site environments. Travel to the Donlin Gold Project site, supplier locations, contractor facilities, or other business locations may be required. The employee may occasionally be exposed to conditions associated with an active mining, construction, or remote project environment.
