JOB SUMMARY

The Manager – Process and Mechanical Design will lead and develop a team of engineers and designers responsible for the design and CAD modeling of custom industrial water and process equipment. This role combines technical expertise with strong leadership to ensure the team is properly trained, mentored, and held accountable for producing accurate, high-quality designs on schedule. The individual in this position is responsible for establishing clear expectations, developing team capabilities, prioritizing workloads, and ensuring all design deliverables are completed in a timely manner to support procurement, fabrication, assembly, and overall project deadlines. The Manager will foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability while ensuring designs meet all applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers, providing structured onboarding, technical training, coaching, and ongoing professional development.

  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable for quality, productivity, and adherence to project schedules.

  • Ensure all design work, drawings, and related documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner to support procurement, fabrication, assembly, and customer delivery deadlines.

  • Monitor design workloads and project priorities, assigning resources effectively to ensure the team meets committed project milestones.

  • Review designs and technical documentation to ensure compliance with customer specifications, applicable codes, quality standards, and internal engineering practices.

  • Identify skill gaps within the design team and implement training and mentorship plans to strengthen technical capabilities and improve overall team performance.

  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Applications Engineers, Procurement, Production, and other departments to proactively address issues and maintain project schedules.

  • Track project progress, identify risks or bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to prevent delays.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation across engineering and manufacturing operations.

  • Participate in proposal development and provide technical input during project scoping and design reviews.

  • Provide regular reporting on team performance, resource utilization, project status, and improvement initiatives to senior leadership.

  • Periodically travel to various company locations for meetings, training, and collaboration.

  • Adhere to and support all company safety policies and guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience leading, supervising, or managing engineering and/or design teams.

  • Demonstrated success training, mentoring, and developing engineers and designers.

  • Proven ability to prioritize workloads and ensure design deliverables are completed accurately and on time to support overall project schedules.

  • Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.

  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and delegation skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, project management, procurement, and production teams.

  • Ability to work from the St. Michael office as the primary work location and travel regularly to the Chanhassen office (approximately once per week).

  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and team development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience implementing formal training programs, engineering standards, and best practices.

  • Experience in custom equipment manufacturing, industrial water treatment, or process systems.

  • Experience with Gibbs and Microsoft Visio.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $170,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
