Job description

General Statement or Primary Purpose Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position is to assist the staff at the Vidant Medical Center Financial Services Department in providing current detailed information regarding patients' Medicaid eligibility status for Pitt County residents and other county residents who are patients at their various facilities. Most inquiries come from financial staff at Vidant Medical Center and its other regional hospitals. Some clinical staff personnel may need patient case information also.

This position has an onsite Vidant Medical Center supervisor in this department. In addition, this employee must report to an immediate supervisor at Pitt County Department of Social Services and is required to participate in monthly conferences at her work site or at the agency site. This individual must attend monthly Medicaid unit meetings.

This employee is required to occasionally assist an Income Maintenance Caseworker III housed at the Vidant Medical Center with the copying of patient Medicaid application information and do Medicaid related assignments for DSS caseworkers at the supervisor's discretion. The employee must perform shelter duty as needed and attend bi-monthly staff meetings. Duties and Responsibilities or Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.

Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials. Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment. Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.

Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations. Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations. Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.

Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature. May require ability to supervise and coordinate the work of other staff, student workers or volunteers. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Valid North Carolina driver's license required. Bilinguals encouraged to apply. DD 214 is required from applicants claiming a military preference.
