Proactively communicating with team members and leveraging data-driven problem-solving approaches can help process engineers effectively manage these obstacles and drive process improvements.

What are process engineers?

Process engineers are professionals who design, implement, control, and optimize industrial processes, especially in manufacturing settings such as chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and energy industries. Their main goal is to improve efficiency, reduce costs, maintain safety, and ensure product quality by analyzing and refining production methods. They work closely with other engineers and technicians to troubleshoot problems, develop new processes, and enhance existing systems. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of industry regulations are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Engineer, you need a solid background in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering, often supported by a relevant degree and engineering licensure. Job description

Overview

Lutron is seeking a Process Engineer to join our manufacturing team, supporting Tanury—a Lutron company—at our Lincoln, Rhode Island facility. In this role, you will help advance manufacturing excellence by improving production and supply chain processes through handson engagement, strong process discipline, and datadriven problem solving.

You will partner closely with Production, Quality, and Operations teams on the manufacturing floor to identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions that enhance quality, efficiency, and process stability. You will interact with facility leadership to scope and prioritize process improvement projects.  You will be responsible for collecting and analyzing process and quality data and translating findings into clear, actionable insights that support daily operational decisions.

You will develop and optimize processes, establish effective process controls, and lead rootcause analysis and corrective actions using structured, datadriven methodologies. In this role, you will also lead crossfunctional efforts and serve as a trusted technical partner across the organization, often working in partnership with other Lutron manufacturing, engineering and operations teams.

This position offers meaningful ownership, high visibility, and the opportunity to work across a wide range of products and technologies, with longterm growth potential within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and implementing processes for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with technical and quality specifications
  • Establishing Process Controls to ensure adequate capability.
  • Monitoring and optimizing process performance with controls and metrics.
  • Troubleshooting process issues and identifying root causes using data-driven methodologies such as DOE, SPC, or Six Sigma tools.
  • Leading and collaborating with cross functional teams such as Quality and Production teams to resolve nonconformances and implementing corrective actions.
  • Developing and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Supporting cost reduction and yield improvement initiatives while maintaining product integrity and reliability.
  • Creating SOPs and training production operators and technicians on process standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing process engineering
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.00 for all degrees earned
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 preferred
  • Proficiency in data analysis, with experience using Power BI or other data analysis and visualization tools
  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H1-B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
