What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Simulate Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Process Simulate Specialist, you need a strong background in industrial engineering, manufacturing processes, and 3D simulation, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in Siemens Process Simulate software, knowledge of PLC programming, and familiarity with CAD systems are essential technical requirements. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this field. These capabilities are crucial for accurately modeling, optimizing, and communicating complex manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency and reducing production risks.

What is the difference between Process Simulate vs Process Engineer?

AspectProcess SimulateProcess Engineer
Primary RoleUses simulation software to model manufacturing processesDesigns, develops, and optimizes manufacturing processes
Skills & CertificationsCAD/CAM, simulation software proficiency, technical engineering backgroundProcess design, project management, engineering certifications
Work EnvironmentTypically in software labs or engineering officesFactories, manufacturing plants, engineering offices
Industry UsageUsed by manufacturing and automation companies for process validationEmployed in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace industries for process development

While Process Simulate focuses on modeling and testing manufacturing processes virtually, Process Engineers are responsible for designing and implementing these processes in real-world settings. Both roles require technical expertise, but Process Simulate emphasizes simulation skills, whereas Process Engineers focus on practical process development and optimization.

How does a Process Simulate specialist typically collaborate with engineering and production teams during a project?

A Process Simulate specialist works closely with both engineering and production teams to develop, test, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment before implementation on the shop floor. This collaboration involves regular meetings to review simulation results, gather feedback on proposed process changes, and ensure alignment with production goals and constraints. Effective communication is key, as the specialist must translate technical simulation data into actionable insights for engineers and operators. Such teamwork helps identify potential bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and reduce costly errors during actual production ramp-up.

What is a Process Simulate engineer?

A Process Simulate engineer specializes in using simulation software—such as Siemens Process Simulate—to design, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment. Their main tasks include creating digital models of production lines, testing various process scenarios, and identifying improvements before physical implementation. This helps manufacturers save time, reduce costs, and minimize errors by addressing issues early in the design phase. Process Simulate engineers often collaborate closely with production, quality, and design teams to ensure efficient and error-free manufacturing workflows.

Job description

Tech Transformation is building a new capability to evaluate the deployability of Amazon Robotics products virtually - before the first physical prototype is built. This role is the founding engineer for that capability. You will use Tecnomatix Process Simulate to build physics-based simulations of field installation processes: modeling rigid body kinematics to validate assembly sequences, analyzing force and load distributions during lifting and rigging operations, and verifying that mechanical interfaces achieve required fits under real-world tolerance conditions.
Your work will directly influence hardware design decisions by providing data-driven feedback on spatial fit, tool accessibility, assembly feasibility, and ergonomics - shifting deployment engineering from reactive to proactive.
Key job responsibilities
- Build and execute assembly simulations of robotic workcells using Tecnomatix Process Simulate to evaluate installation sequences, tool clearance, material movement paths, and assembly feasibility
- Develop scalable simulation workflows and templates for DfD reviews across multiple product programs
- Review hardware CAD models against deployment requirements, providing actionable DfD feedback at Prototype and Alpha phases
- Build and maintain a 3D library of common deployment tools (alignment tools, impact drills, rigging equipment, forklifts) with spatial operating envelopes for automated accessibility analysis
- Collaborate with Reality Capture engineers to integrate building envelope data (VRC dimensions, MHE clearance, floor flatness, column positions) into deployment simulations
- Support Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) efforts by providing simulation inputs and collaborating with the systems engineering team on tolerance chain modeling
- Partner with Hardware, Tech Deploy, and Manufacturing teams to establish DfD as a core accountability within TfX
- Design and execute field experiments to characterize construction tolerances (floor flatness, drilling accuracy, MHE as-built accuracy) and translate findings into design guidelines for Hardware
About the team
Tech Transformation (TfX) is part of the Global Engineering organization within Amazon Robotics. We enable the deployment of robotic solutions into Amazon's fulfillment network, working across a range of technologies from autonomous mobile robots to robotic workcells and automated fulfillment systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field
- Experience in 3D CAD
- Experience with assembly process planning, DfA/DfM, or manufacturing engineering
- 2+ years of experience using process simulation tools (Tecnomatix Process Simulate or equivalent)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Familiarity with 3D scanning / point cloud data (Leica RTC360, NavVis, or similar)
- Experience in deployment, installation, or field engineering for automated/robotic systems
- Understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Experience with ergonomic assessment tools
