Role

We are seeking a Sulfuric Acid Plant Shift Supervisor to join our Sulfuric Acid Department. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and effective participation in the commissioning, start-up, and steady state operation of the processing facility. You will lead the day-to-day operation of the Sulfuric Acid plant, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards and drive performance through continuous improvement. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector.

The role is based at our Thacker Pass Project Site during commissioning and startup and reports to the Sulfuric Acid Superintendent. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, vendor, or other locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a Safety-First culture by ensuring all operations are conducted in compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and process safety management (PSM) standards, while empowering employees to identify hazards, stop unsafe work, and continuously improve safety performance.
  • Supervise and motivate Sulfuric Acid operations crews, and relevant contractors; conduct performance evaluations and address personnel matters.
  • Lead commissioning and start-up of the Sulfuric Acid Plant to safely achieve design capacity.
  • Monitor and report operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including EHS compliance, production, and efficiency metrics.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise in the production process and inform appropriate departments.
  • Supervise and coordinate all process operation activities of hourly production operators to meet daily production targets (Quantity, Quality, On-Time Delivery).
  • Assist in developing plans for emergency situations.
  • Ensure completion of reporting and record-keeping requirements.
  • Continually manage production schedules for Sulfuric Acid Plant.
  • Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments, including maintenance, electrical, mobile equipment, and processing, to ensure alignment of plant performance.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NDEP, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance to operations team members, contractors, and consultants to ensure corporate standards are applied and maintained.
  • Builds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in mineral processing or chemical manufacturing.
  • 2+ year experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in greenfield or brownfield start-up environments, including staffing, training, and commissioning.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Strong understanding of chemical plant principles, processes, and unit operations.
  • Proficiency with plant control systems (DCS) and laboratory data interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead operations staff within a multi-discipline framework.
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to motivate and influence teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Teams, etc.).
