Position Summary / Overview

Qnity is seeking an experienced Process Safety Management (PSM) & Machine Safety Lead to provide site-level technical leadership at our Newark CMPT site. This role is fully dedicated to the Newark CMPT location and does not include responsibility for any other Qnity sites.

This position is a senior technical expert and program owner, responsible for the design, effectiveness, coordination, and continuous improvement of the site's Process Safety Management program. In addition, the role serves as the site lead for Machine Safety, owning the program strategically while partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and EHS.

This role does not include direct people management. Leadership is exercised through technical expertise, influence, coordination, and strong system ownership.

This role reports to the Newark CMPT Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Leader.

Key Responsibilities

Process Safety Management (PSM)

  • Serve as Site PSM Committee Leader, owning program structure, cadence, integration across elements, and accountability
  • Coordinate the proper documentation of Process Safety Information
  • Lead and coordinate the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program, including facilitation of PHAs and Dust Hazard Analyses (DHAs)
  • Own and drive strong execution of Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
  • Ensure PHA, MOC, and PSSR recommendations are clearly tracked, technically sound, and closed in a timely manner
  • Maintain the site PSM documentation system, including records, actions, metrics, and meeting minutes
  • Ensure PSM programs and documentation align with Qnity standards and applicable regulatory requirements, while remaining flexible and fit-for-purpose
  • Ensure processes are appropriately classified (e.g., high-hazard vs. low-hazard operations) and support accurate facility siting documentation
  • Serve as the primary site technical contact for PSM audits, secondparty audits, and regulatory inspections
  • Conduct routine program and field audits with strong site visibility and engagement
  • Track, analyze, and report site-level PSM performance metrics and leading indicators
  • Participate in the Qnity PS&RM network, sharing learnings, risks, and best practices

Machine Safety (Site Lead)

  • Serve as the site owner for the Machine Safety program
  • Strategically own machine safety requirements while partnering heavily with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance for execution
  • Ensure machine safety systems align with applicable regulations, standards, and internal expectations
  • Lead or coordinate machine risk assessments and verify effective corrective actions
  • Provide technical input into safeguarding design, risk reduction strategies, and safe machine modifications
  • Support investigations, learning reviews, and corrective actions related to machine safety events and near misses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, Health, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong technical expertise in core PSM elements, including PHA, MOC, and PSSR
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating PHAs, DHAs, and site-wide or unit-level facility siting reviews
  • Strong working knowledge of Process Safety regulatory requirements and management systems
  • Qualified or willing to become qualified as a Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) practitioner
  • PSM auditing experience
  • Ability to lead through technical credibility, influence, and effective coordination
  • Proven ability to manage complex, time-sensitive, technically rigorous programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface across disciplines and organizational levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in chemical processing or refinery environments
  • Demonstrated technical capability and ownership mindset in Machine Safety programs (risk assessments, safeguarding, compliance)
