Job description

The TerraPower Isotopesยฎ (TPIโ„ข) division has been established to pursue medical isotopes development--advancing nuclear science for significant human health benefits. We seek to support revolutionary radiotherapies for treatments of various cancers through the supply of radioisotopes. TerraPower currently has unique access to a supply of thorium for the long-term production of actinium-225 in the growing alpha therapy market and intends to expand into other nuclear related medical treatments.
The TerraPower Isotopes program is an integral part of the Washington State based TerraPower team, a company working to raise living standards globally. In 2006, the company originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. TerraPower's mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field.
TPI is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced radiopharmaceutical applications and influencing change within nuclear medicine. TerraPower is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
Project Manager
TerraPower Isotopesยฎ (TPIโ„ข) is seeking an experienced Project Manager to work within the TPI Project Office and carry a dual mandate: help build the Project Office itself while directly delivering the project work of TPI's engineering, technology, and R&D functions. As TPI scales its actinium-225 production capability, this role is central to standing up the frameworks, controls, and tooling that will govern how work is planned, resourced, measured, and delivered across the enterprise-and to putting those frameworks into practice on live scope from day one.
This is a builder's role for someone who has helped establish a project management office or project controls function inside a fast-moving, high-growth organization and wants to do it again in a mission-driven, highly regulated setting. You will partner with engineering, technology, R&D, and operations leaders to plan and drive their project scope, and you will help architect the governance, project controls, and portfolio disciplines that TPI's future-state Project Office is built on. Success in this role depends on strong project controls fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with limited direction in an environment where priorities move quickly and regulatory rigor is non-negotiable.
TPI intends to fill more than one position from this posting, spanning general project delivery, project controls and scheduling, and portfolio reporting and analytics. Actual position starting level, focus area, and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the embedded project manager for one or more engineering and technology functions (for example Systems Engineering, mechanical and containment design, process integration, or R&D chemistry), planning and driving the delivery of their project scope end to end.
  • Contribute to the design and stand-up of the TPI Project Office framework, including governance structures, delivery-lane definitions, and the cross-cutting disciplines of project controls, risk management, vendor and contract management, and portfolio management.
  • Build and maintain project controls across assigned scope: develop work breakdown structures from the ground up, establish resource-loaded schedules, and manage baselines throughout execution.
  • Coordinate scheduling in Primavera P6 with the master scheduler, including resource loading and leveling, integration of external engineering and vendor schedules, and the recurring update and reporting cycle.
  • Establish and run performance measurement and reporting, including milestone and earned-value tracking, variance analysis, and a clear reporting cadence-including portfolio dashboards (for example Power BI)-for project teams and leadership.
  • Operate change management through a disciplined project change request process, maintaining live change logs and risk registers and driving timely resolution.
  • Support portfolio intake and categorization, ensuring new and in-flight work is classified consistently and planned to an appropriate level of fidelity.
  • Stand up and steward project management tooling-including enterprise scheduling, time tracking, and portfolio reporting-with attention to keeping validated-quality systems and project tooling appropriately separated.
  • Coordinate interfaces with contracted engineering and EPC partners and with specialized equipment vendors, holding scope, schedule, and deliverable expectations to agreed standards.
  • Author and refine Project Office governance artifacts-policies, procedures, and templates-and support the training and adoption that make them stick across the organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with quality, operations, engineering, and R&D to keep delivery aligned with safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Key Qualifications and Skills
  • B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline from an accredited university, and 6+ years of project management experience with a strong foundation in project controls (scheduling, cost, earned value, and change control).
  • Demonstrated experience helping build or stand up a project management office, project controls function, or comparable delivery framework-ideally within a startup, scale-up, or other fast-growth environment.
  • Proficiency with Atlassian tooling (Confluence and Jira) and familiarity with enterprise scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, or comparable collaboration, work-management, and scheduling platforms, and comfort helping design how such tools are configured and governed.
  • Experience delivering projects in a regulated or high-compliance environment such as cGMP/pharmaceutical, nuclear, aerospace, or other safety-critical industry.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated, with a proven ability to operate effectively with limited direction and to bring structure to ambiguity in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to communicate and drive alignment across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, R&D, quality, and operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear governance documentation and concise leadership-level reporting.
  • PMP, PMI-SP, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in a radiopharmaceutical, nuclear, or radiological environment strongly preferred.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
