Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The Process Planner is responsible for evaluating incoming receipts of hazardous waste for disposal. Evaluation includes knowledge of physical and chemical hazards of the waste, packaging size and type, regulatory restrictions, and facility restrictions for processing waste or feed limitations of the incineration unit. Processing includes repackaging, pumping liquids to tanks or direct to incinerator, direct burn of pre-packaged drums, and bulking of waste for feedstock.
Provides assistance to plant operations personnel to include determining suitability of waste type versus processing options, evaluating or re-evaluating waste description, sample results, and packaging size or type determined on receipt. Also troubleshoots inventory issues to ensure timely destruction of waste in storage.
Interact with appropriate site personnel to insure environmental, health and safety issues and requirements. Participates in safety reviews of potential waste opportunities. Participates in regulatory and customer audits of the facility.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluate waste receipts for processing.  Assign processing codes used to direct waste to specific plant processes.
  • Uses knowledge of chemistry to direct waste to process that ensure safe handling of the waste and protection of plant employees.
  • Evaluate chemical reactivity and chemical compatibility of waste based on descriptions and/or lab results to determine plant processing including chemical batching of liquids or solids, processing under inert or ambient atmospheres, repackaging, or direct feed of waste.
  • Maintain and update reactive database and all profiles to composition, handling, incineration, etc. to insure and expedite appropriate burn requirements
  • Insure and monitor that all hazardous waste inventory is processed in accordance within designated time parameters.
  • Work with appropriate operational personnel to determine the most preferred method of handling various waste streams.
  • Prepare a variety of weekly and monthly reports to determine and insure that existing process burn plans are effective and efficient.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background: 

  • BS in Chemistry or related discipline required
  • Prior work experience of 2-4 years in the hazardous waste industry preferred

  • Familiarity with EPA regulations regarding RCRA, TSCA, PFOS & HFC chemicals a plus
  • Extensive knowledge in processing methodologies
