Job description

About This Role:

Under minimal supervision, the Process Technician Specialist provides advanced technical support to maximize efficiency of Molding Department.  Performs in-process detailed mechanical and quality inspection of internally molded parts to ensure conformance to specification using precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges and comparator.

Demonstrates behavior that is consistent with the company’s values of Customer Satisfaction, Innovation, Family, and Social Responsibility.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  • Creates and maintains injection molding processes using de-coupled molding practices and any auxiliary equipment.
  • Sets up and runs sample, production, and R&D molds. Ensures that the performance of all new and existing molds meet Engineering and Production requirements. Establishes set-up records.
  • Performs visual and mechanical inspections of complex parts using precision inspection equipment. Ensures that all molds and molding machines run at maximum performance.
  • Makes technical recommendations to improve quality and performance of molds and molding machines.
  • Analyzes problem areas when parts are not meeting Quality Control specifications. Makes all required adjustments to confirm that all parts meet specifications for size, appearance, and functionality.
  • Trains team members and other department employees.
  • Communicates regularly with management on mold and machine problems. Provides direction and instruction to Technical Team B & C employees
  • Collects and visually inspects random sample shots to support quality control. Uses set inspection procedures, specifications and tip sheets to determine disposition of parts. Ensures conformance to specifications using tip sheets and precision inspection equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges and video comparator. Maximizes the efficiency of the injection molding processes.
  • Maintains and completes all necessary reporting, paperwork, and tags. Correctly provides all paperwork and the folder is attached to the molding machines. Files set-up folder for machines that are not in use. Tags molds and related equipment for identification. Establishes set up sheets.
  • As necessary, supports molding operations including but not limited to pull and set up molds to run in production, assist material handling, and operate machines.
  • Performs minor repairs to machines such as fixing water leaks, oil leaks, adjusting sprue pickers and helps the Maintenance Supervisor when needed.
  • Has the flexibility to work overtime or weekends, based on business needs.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years of experience working with plastics in an injection molding environment.
