Job description

Specialty Pharmacist - Second Shift
Join a high-impact, patient-first pharmacy team
Shift: 8-hour shifts between 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM, Monday-Friday
Weekend Rotation: Saturdays or Sundays - as needed
Job Purpose
Provides integrated support to patients and physicians by delivering a hands-on, total quality patient care experience. This role ensures seamless coordination across specialty and retail pharmacy services, enabling smooth patient transitions and timely access to medications.
The Specialty Pharmacist will manage both retail and specialty pharmacy operations, ensuring:
  • Safe and effective medication dispensing
  • Comprehensive patient counseling
  • Clinical oversight and support
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
  • Prepare and dispense medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detect therapeutic incompatibilities
  • Perform Medication Therapy Management (MTM), including:
    • Reviewing and monitoring medication regimens
    • Advising clinicians on evidence-based therapies
    • Documenting interventions
  • Provide patient counseling and clinical support
  • Make referrals to other healthcare professionals when necessary
Operational Excellence
  • Complete pharmacy operational requirements by:
    • Organizing and directing technicians' workflow
    • Verifying preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals
    • Verifying prescriptions
  • Coordinate patient care, including:
    • Identifying and resolving insurance-related issues
    • Recognizing opportunities for financial assistance programs
  • Manage, organize, and update relevant data using database systems
Compliance & Regulatory
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • State Board of Pharmacy regulations
    • DEA regulations
    • Company policies and procedures
  • Maintain controlled substance records
  • Remove outdated or damaged medications from inventory
  • Supervise support personnel work quality
  • Maintain licensure and stay current on legislation
  • Ensure adherence to:
    • 340B program compliance
    • Specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
    • Medication safety protocols
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify trends, resolve problems, and recommend process improvements
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Apply insights to enhance productivity, quality, and customer service
  • Support organizational excellence through innovation and change implementation
Education & Leadership
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Train and mentor:
    • Pharmacy staff
    • Students, interns, externs, and residents

Qualifications & Experience
Education & Licensure
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy
  • Active Pharmacist license in the applicable state
Experience
  • Required: 1+ years in retail or specialty pharmacy
  • ☆ Preferred: 5+ years in a dispensing or specialty setting
