As a Principal Propulsion Engineer - Level 3 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

Project Engineers are responsible for planning and execution of technical work supporting Development, Qualification, and Production of Solid Rocket motors.

The Sentinel PM&P / Aging Project Engineer will manage the technical scope and deliverables required to meet customer Parts, Materials, and Process (PM&P) requirements and execute the Sentinel SRM Aging and Surveillance strategy. A fundamental knowledge of engineering concepts is required, as is a basic understanding of materials science, test, and production techniques.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate with both internal NG and external USG customers
  • Develop engineering execution plan to meet master schedules
  • Lead Material Scientists in the development of test plans and coordinate testing and reporting
  • Lead the Sentinel Aging and Surveillance program
  • Assemble efficient cross functional hardware teams to coordinate material and process choices
  • Ensure and document SRM compliance to all customer PM&P and Aging requirements
  • Review Manufacturing Bills of Materials and ensure compliance with Sentinel requirements
  • Ensure qualification static test objectives are met via coordination with hardware teams
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering teams to ensure effective requirement decomposition and traceability
  • Identify and mitigate risks
  • Coordinate and conduct deliverable reviews
  • Lead problem and failure investigations
  • Lead technical reporting efforts
  • Perform presentations to internal and external customers
  • Travel expectation: 5% - 10%
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 1 years of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Ability to work with energetic materials as a U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, firearms and explosives.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years in solid rocket motor design / manufacturing or strong experience in parts, materials or processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated flexibility in managing technical solutions given changing customer requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget
  • Experience with the proposal process
  • Knowledge and experience in System Engineering, or PM&P tools and disciplines

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
