Process Engineer - Gear Machining
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer with expertise in gear machining to support manufacturing process engineering activities. The ideal candidate will have experience driving continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing manufacturing processes, supporting quality documentation, and ensuring production readiness while maintaining safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing process engineering activities for gear machining operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Complete PPAP quality launch documentation.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues, develop action plans, and verify corrective actions for internal and supplier processes.
  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure compliance with established manufacturing guidelines.
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions.
  • Create process documentation and work instructions supporting quality methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Deliver capable manufacturing processes and tooling for gear machining operations.
  • Lead variability reduction and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards.
  • Support ISO 14001 compliance activities and internal audits.
  • Identify production constraints and implement root cause improvements to achieve production targets.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of related manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with gear manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with round parts machining.
  • Understanding of hypoid bevel gear manufacturing processes, including blanking, milling, grinding, heat treat, shot peening, and lapping.
  • Experience using quality assessment tools such as QDAS and Minitab.
  • Experience with gear CMM equipment.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with CAPA, 8D, and 5 Why problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with Lean tools including 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Experience with DMAIC, DMADV (DFSS), FMEA, PPAP, and DOE methodologies.
