Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is hiring a senior-level Water Chemistry Process Engineer to join our Charlotte design center. This role is ideal for an experienced process engineer who enjoys technical leadership, complex problem-solving, and mentoring engineers while delivering high-quality solutions for power, energy, and industrial projects.
You'll lead water chemistry and process design efforts across multiple projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system designs that meet regulatory and industry standards.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Lead process and water chemistry design from concept through detailed engineering
  • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and process specifications
  • Perform equipment sizing (pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, air coolers) and hydraulic analyses
  • Design and evaluate relief and flare systems
  • Apply water chemistry expertise to raw water, demineralized water, wastewater, and power plant cycle chemistry
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other safety/risk reviews
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and conduct design reviews
  • Present technical solutions to clients and support proposals and project planning

Qualifications
What We're Looking For
  • BS in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of process engineering experience (power, energy, or chemical industries)
  • Strong experience with hydraulic analysis, equipment specs, and process modeling
  • Proficiency with AspenTech or similar tools
  • Excellent communication skills and strong engineering judgment

Preferred:
  • PE license
  • Power generation or water treatment experience
  • Gas processing, refining, or gas purification exposure
  • OSBL/utility system design experience
