Job description

Job Summary: The Process Engineer receives direction from the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and works independently with a focus on process and workflow documentation creation and refinement. The Process Engineer is responsible for developing manufacturing and testing methods to support a variety of departmental activities. The Process Engineer works on every step of the manufacturing process, from design to production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Collaborates with ENGENDREN Design Engineering, Production, Quality, Sales, and Senior Management on conducting research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing.
  • Analyzes and integrates new product designs, manufacturing techniques, and new technologies to ensure quality products first time.
  • Assist ENGENDREN's Design team in designing for manufacturability, developing processes, and implementing appropriate documentation.
  • Leads the effort in identifying waste and streamlining processes to run at optimal capacity.
  • Responsible for creating process documentation within the department.
  • Conduct Process Capability studies and offer suggestions to improve product and process capabilities.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of non-conforming in production.
  • Makes suggestions to save costs through design change or the manufacturing process.
  • Estimates production costs.
  • Leads prototyping initiatives by participating in design reviews and applying capability and capacity limitations.
  • Conducting research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing.
  • Establishing safety procedures for individuals working with hazardous chemicals
  • Designing and planning equipment layout
  • Conducting tests and monitoring the process performance throughout production
  • Troubleshooting problems associated with manufacturing processes with other engineers and production employees.
  • Evaluating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding the production team.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Maintains a positive, discrimination-free workplace for all employees.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 75 (seldom-assisted lifting).
  • Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 150 (seldom-assisted lifting).
  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, or sitting; infrequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to: 25 ft. (seldom).
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Work location(s): office; metal fabrication/assembly shop; field visits to customer/rep locations, including domestic/international travel, <5%.
  • Minimal exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/ equipment, and inclement weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment requirements: safety glasses and safety toe shoes when in shop areas. Additional equipment as per job site/length of stay requirements.

Position Requirements:

  • Key skills, abilities, and knowledge:
    • Background in processes, materials (copper, brass, aluminum, and steel), welding, brazing, punching, stamping, tooling, casting, machining, and fixturing is preferred but not required.
    • Experience in ERP systems.
    • Experience with CAD of AutoCAD software.
    • Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Skill in dealing with others including ENGENDREN employees, suppliers, and end-users.
    • Ability to lead and work independently.
    • Strong analytical skills and excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships (in-person/phone/e-mail).
    • Ability to plan, organize and execute multiple process engineering projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to conduct research (problem identification, data collection, and analysis, solution formulation, testing, and evaluation).
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
    • Knowledge of radiator manufacturing practices and strategies is desirable.
    • Knowledge of engineering and heat transfer theory and radiator design, assembly, and operating characteristics is desirable.
  • Experiential: Five or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. Experience in radiator manufacturing and/or heat transfer product applications is highly desirable.
  • Educational: Bachelor's Degree in Production/Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, etc.: Driver's license; passport (for foreign travel as necessary).
