Controls Engineer Intern
Job description
Overview:
The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related field. Our paid internship program provides an opportunity for students to assist our team in analyzing plant processes, designing and implementing improvements, troubleshooting issues with hardware and processes, and working with others to detect problems and implement solutions.
Matalco plant locations include:
  • Franklin, KY

Internship Includes:
  • This is paid internship with base pay being $23.00/hr..
  • Real-world experience that provides a competitive edge upon graduation
  • Casual work environment
  • Networking with leadership and functional plant leaders.
  • Assignment time frame: Summer- May - August

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with PLC programming maintenance and utilizing online PLC training.
  • Assist with HMI programming
  • Implement minor projects independently with guidance from supervision.
  • Investigate existing equipment in preparation for modifications.
  • Document and communicate project and improvement items
  • Opportunity to work with engineers on a daily basis and shadow specialist when feasible.
  • Participate in a variety of business projects and opportunities.
  • Participate in a variety of personal and professional developmental workshops.
  • Up to 20% travel required (if needed).
  • All interns are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:
  • Must have completed 90 or more credit hours by the end of the spring 2024 semester
  • Must be a full-time student attending an accredited two-year or four-year college/university
  • Preferred majors: Controls, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • Must be legally authorized to work a company in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and team skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, able to work well independently.
  • Autocad, programming, and scripting experience is preferred.

Working Conditions
    • Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35°F to 100°F; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
    • Work is mainly performed in an office setting, with some time spent in a manufacturing environment
