About the position:

The Director, Marketing & Public Relations is responsible for leading the company's external marketing, brand, media relations, and public communications strategy to strengthen brand awareness, build brand equity, and position the company as a leading aerospace and defense organization. Reporting to the Senior Director, Office of the CEO, this role serves as the strategic leader responsible for how the company is perceived by customers, industry partners, investors, media, prospective employees, and the broader marketplace.

As the company continues to evolve through multiple acquisitions and organizational transformation, this leader will drive the continued development of a unified corporate brand that reflects a single, market-leading enterprise. The Director will develop and execute integrated marketing and public relations strategies that increase visibility, elevate executive thought leadership, support business growth, and reinforce the company's position as a trusted and innovative partner for the world's most complex missions.

This position is exclusively focused on external communications, marketing, brand management, and public relations. Internal communications and employee communications are managed separately within the Office of the CEO.

Responsibilities

Brand Strategy & Market Positioning

  • Develop and execute the enterprise brand strategy to increase awareness, credibility, and market differentiation.
  • Lead the continued evolution and integration of the company's brand following multiple acquisitions and organizational transformation.
  • Oversee the creative team and ensure brand standards are maintained throughout all deliverables/products.
  • Establish consistent external messaging, visual identity, and brand standards across all customer- and market-facing communications.
  • Build long-term brand equity that supports growth, customer confidence, investor interest, and industry recognition.
  • Ensure the company's value proposition and strategic positioning are consistently reflected across all external touchpoints.
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing strategies aligned with corporate growth objectives.
  • Lead corporate marketing campaigns supporting business development, customer engagement, recruiting brand awareness, and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee corporate website strategy, digital marketing, search optimization, social media, advertising, and content marketing.
  • Measure and report campaign effectiveness, brand awareness, website performance, and market engagement.
  • Manage external marketing agencies and creative partners.

Public Relations & Media Relations

  • Develop proactive public relations strategies that enhance corporate reputation and increase positive market visibility.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with aerospace, defense, technology, business, and national media.
  • Lead media outreach supporting major announcements, launches, contract awards, partnerships, executive appointments, acquisitions, and company milestones.
  • Develop media strategies that position the company as a recognized industry leader.
  • Serve as the primary communications lead for external media engagement and crisis communications support.

Executive Brand & Thought Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team to increase external visibility and thought leadership.
  • Identify and secure executive speaking opportunities at major industry conferences and events.
  • Develop executive messaging, keynote presentations, articles, interviews, and bylined content.
  • Position company leadership as recognized voices on space, defense, technology, innovation, and industry trends.

Corporate Visibility & Industry Engagement

  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all external events.
  • Maximize return on investment through coordinated marketing, media, digital, and executive engagement activities.

Digital Presence

  • Lead the company's digital brand strategy across all external platforms.
  • Continuously improve website content, user experience, SEO, and digital performance.
  • Expand social media presence to increase engagement with customers, media, industry influencers, and prospective employees.
  • Utilize analytics and market insights to continuously optimize digital performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop marketing and public relations team.
  • Manage external agencies, consultants, creative partners, and vendors.
  • Develop annual budgets and marketing investment strategies.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative culture focused on measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing, brand management, public relations, or corporate communications.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and agency partners.
  • Demonstrated success developing and growing corporate brands.
  • Experience leading brand transformation following acquisitions, mergers, or significant organizational change.
  • Strong background in external communications, media relations, and integrated marketing.
  • Experience advising senior executives and supporting executive visibility initiatives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and project management capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a publicly traded company, with some knowledge of either aerospace, defense, space, advanced technology, or government contracting industries.
  • Proven experience repositioning an organization into a recognized market/industry leader.
  • Experience developing enterprise brand strategies following multiple acquisitions.
  • Demonstrated success increasing brand awareness and market share through integrated marketing and earned media.
  • Existing relationships with aerospace, defense, technology, and national business media.
  • Experience managing executive thought leadership programs.
  • Familiarity with investor-facing communications and corporate reputation management.
  • Master's degree or MBA.
