JOB SUMMARY

This is for a programming Library Associate 3 position, the selected candidate will mainly be working on Adult and Senior Programs. ย The primary responsibility is to assist the librarian with planning and facilitating library programs and/or volunteer coordination. Additional responsibilities include staffing the circulation desk, providing excellent customer service, handling and overseeing the opening of accounts, placing holds, processing interlibrary loans, handling fines, processing lost materials and problem-solving patron accounts.ย 

This position is for an LA3

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Provides customer service to patrons by welcoming patrons, providing tours and assisting patrons in all areas of the library
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement and promote programming activities, with a focus on Adult Services
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement, and attend outreach services around the community
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate
  • May maintain circulation records and oversee the mailing of library materials to patrons in homebound or other programs
  • Supports Circulation Desk by assisting with answering patron questions, issuing library cards, checking in/out materials, and managing patron accounts
  • Process damaged materials to ensure collections are maintained in a good condition
  • Assist with library opening and closing procedures
  • Act as Person in Charge (PIC) when library management or librarians are not available
  • May coordinate volunteers and assign duties, providing necessary training
  • May supervise junior Library Associates which includes managing performance, evaluation, interviewing/hiring, training and approving timesheets
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • ย H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Three years library experience preferred
  • One year supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus
  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is desired
  • Excellent customer service skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.ย 
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
