Control Systems Technician - Process Automation
This role supports manufacturing operations in a multi-process facility consisting of high-speed packaging operations and mixer / batch-based process systems, ensuring automation and process control systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
The Control Systems Technician provides site-level technical ownership for process automation and control systems. This role is responsible for coordinating automation work requests, managing external automation vendors, troubleshooting complex control system issues, and enforcing process control operating discipline. The position plays a critical role in equipment reliability, defect prevention, and operational performance by ensuring automation changes are executed correctly and consistently.
This role requires a high level of technical judgment, organization, and accountability. The successful candidate must be able to manage competing priorities, resolve complex automation issues, interface effectively across all levels of the organization, and act decisively in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the single point of intake and technical owner for all site process automation and control system work requests; prioritize requests based on business needs and production impact
  • Determine whether automation work can be executed internally or require external automation vendors or system integrators
  • Develop technical scopes of work and coordinate execution of automation activities
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, automation hardware, AC&O, and MES systems
  • Serve as site Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation resource
  • Conduct weekly audits of automation programming changes
  • Deliver PLC and HMI programming training
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews

QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced PLC and HMI expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, ability to read electrical schematics, strong communication skills, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree (A.A.S.) preferred, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Technology, Instrumentation & Controls, Mechatronics, associated with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience.
  • Experience in machine automation and controls including but not limited to PLC / HMI programming, robot programming and integration.
  • Experience with machine vision and automated inspection desired.
  • Experience with PID Controllers and data historian systems.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in machine safety and safety controls will be a differential.
  • Experience with industrial machinery and electrical circuitry.
  • Familiarity of industry and corporate standards and industry best practices.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical schematics and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to utilize CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), and Excel.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Systematic decision making, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent projects/initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communication) with the ability to collaborate with leaders, peers, operators, and technicians.
  • Ability to build, lead, and work as a team member in a respectful manner in a diverse work environment.
