Job/Position Summary
The Process Technician II - Machining, under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineer, will serve as the manufacturing support in the ceramics shaping area. The qualified candidate will have experience in mechanical shaping equipment such as grinders, lapping equipment and CNC machines. This position requires good organization and writing and interpersonal skills, and the ability to train and interact with machine operators, area engineers and management on a regular basis.
The Process Technician II - Machining will be able to set up characterization equipment, analyze and trouble shoot data, and give further instructions, both verbal and written.
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Follow all safety, quality procedures, work instructions, and maintain housekeeping in the work area.
  • Support the shaping area by precisely documenting methods in the quality document system and creating tool crib items.
  • Perform "first piece" inspections using standard measuring instruments to ensure part conformance to drawing requirements and make necessary adjustments to maintain conformance throughout the run.
  • Set-up various machining equipment (Chevalier, Wiresaw, Lappers, Centerless, 3-Axis CNC)
  • Collect, input, report data in a rapid, efficient, and quality manner, identify issues and bring to management.
  • Clearly, give work instructions both verbal and written including submitting written work instructions to document control database.
  • Other related duties as directed by management.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical degree is a plus.
  • Experience with process documentation is required.
  • Experience with Chevalier, Wire Saw, Centerless Grinder, Lapper or other machining equipment is required. Experience with 3 axis vertical mill (Haas brand) is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to use CAD software or 3D printing is a plus (Solidworks/Autocad).
  • 2 Years Manufacturing/Mechanical or related experience required, 3+ desired, Associates Degree counts for 2 years' experience.
  • Reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems is a plus but not required.
  • Basic Understanding of G Code and Machine Routing preferred.
  • Knowledge of metrology tools such as micrometers, calipers, CMM, Vision measurement systems etc.
  • Ability to analyze data results and troubleshoot issues and root cause.
  • Basic Knowledge of physical material properties.
  • Excellent computer skills to include email, excel spreadsheet and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own workload.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical communications skills and able to work independently and in team environment.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control SPC tools a plus.

Physical/Working Requirements
  • Some physical requirements include walking, lifting less than 25 lbs., and pushing carts with samples with extended periods of standing combined with sitting and walking.
  • Must be able to go up and down steps.
  • Required to lift products and tooling in to position in machinery and requires manual dexterity.
  • Required to use measuring or other analytical tools requiring good near vision.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels and use of chemicals.
