Special Procedure Technician

North Alabama Medical Center- Cardiac Cath Lab
Job Type: Full-Time

North Alabama Medical Center's 24-hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases in Northwest Alabama.

Position Summary

Performs various imaging special and invasive procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
Reports to: Director Cath Lab
FLSA: Non-exempt
Education: Associate's degree
Licenses: A.R.R.T certification
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Minimum work Experience
One-year special procedures experience preferred, not required.
 

Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
 

Essential Functions:
Implements, recommends, delegates and coordinates special procedures care to a group of patients.
Prepares cardiac Cath Lab and sterile table for various procedures. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.
Checks emergency equipment each day.
Positions and preps patient for procedures. Assures all consents, H & P are available prior to procedure.
Monitors patient condition during procedure by observation, EKG, and blood pressure via physiological monitor. Coordinates patient monitoring with procedure nurse.
Positions equipment according to physician instructions.
Analyzes and interprets data for physician reports.
Explains procedures to patients and family to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Checks patients' chart to confirms order and checks armband and two patient identifiers-name and birthdate.
 

Non-Essential Functions:
Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, projects and committees as recommended.
Work scheduled shifts and overtime as necessary.
Request and put away supplies.
Key in work orders to Engineering, IT, Environmental Services.
Receptionist duties as necessary.
Transport duties as necessary.
