Job description

Job Overview:

Generally expected to work as a valued member of the XL Specialized Trailers manufacturing team in support of the Director of Operations and Production Manager. Manufactures products by supervising staff; organizing and monitoring workflow; acts as a quality inspector; serves as a safety coordinator, material handler and trainer for area of responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Spends 50% of their time in direct labor in area of responsibility.
  2. Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  3. Maintain staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities.
  4. Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  5. Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring schedules; resolving problems, reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
  6. Safety: Identifies and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions.
  7. Quality Assurance: acts as the quality inspector for areas of responsibility; maintains quality of service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  8. Material handling: Ensures that all direct and indirect materials are readily available for production team members to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively.
  9. Training: Encourages production team members by helping to select, orient, and train employees; developing personal growth opportunities for team members.
  10. High Performance Team Board: Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data; answer questions and responding to requests. Supports the HPT process.
  11. Communication: Accomplishes production team results by communicating job expectations; planning monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and training employees; initiating, coordinating and ensuring policies, and procedures are followed.
  12. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Wear proper personal protective equipment.
  13. Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing relating results as needed.

Ancillary Duties:

  1. Assist with the continuous improvement of XL Specialized Trailers by leading and participating in projects such as lean, 5-S and Kaizen.
  2. Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall operations of the XL Specialized Trailers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Production employees assigned for area.

Supervision Received:

Works under direct supervision. The employee is responsible for carrying out the assignment, keeping the Director of Operations and Production Manager informed of progress and potential problems or future implications.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Agricultural, or Industrial Engineering; Industrial Technology: Supply Chain; or another related field.
  3. Three years' manufacturing experience.
