Job description

Position Title: Assistant Tennis Pro, Part-Time

Reports to: Associate Director of Tennis- Facilities/ Head Tennis Pro

Supervises: N/A

Location: Mint Valley Tennis Center (Longview, Washington)

Status: Part Time Hourly; Non-Exempt; Lessons Commission

Pay: Ranges from $18–$35 per hour, depending on commission rate, participant volume, and relevant experience

Established in 1904, the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest (USTA PNW) is a 501c3 non-profit organization working to promote and develop the growth of tennis by providing access for all. As one of the 17 sections of the USTA, the national governing body of the sport of tennis, USTA PNW serves more than 1.3M tennis players, 200+ tennis facilities, and provides low-cost RecTennis afterschool and summer parks programs to 40,000+ participants. USTA PNW has cultivated over 300 community partnerships including schools, public parks, recreation, and shared spaces across four states. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide and lead tennis instruction related to the techniques and strategies to members, non-members and guests to enhance broad-based member participation.
  • Ensure that all facility members, non-members and guests receive courteous, prompt and professional attention to all their tennis needs.
  • Attend all staff training and management meetings as required.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all lessons and clinics given.
  • Promote all programs, tournaments and events.
  • Work to retain and grow facility memberships.
  • Ascertain that all areas of the tennis facility are neat and clean at all times.
  • Assist with Tournaments as needed.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations governing the use of the facility, its equipment and other property.
  • Knowledge of equipment available at the pro shop.
  • Respond to Associate Director of Tennis - Facilities/ Head Tennis pro in a timely fashion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • RSPA or PTR certified professional preferred.
  • Proven and progressive experience in leading and teaching tennis.
  • Proven experience working with juniors and adults of all abilities in a tennis facility setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships with staff, members, non-members and guests.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to accomplish responsibilities, goals and projects.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, partners, vendors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • CPR and AED certified preferred.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office.

Key Performance Indicators: When reviewing this position during the year, the following will serve as performance indicators:

  • Mid-year and Annual Reviews performed by Supervisor.
  • Evidence of effective use of program curricula, templates and QA tools.
  • Achievement of specific objectives for areas of responsibility.
  • Evidence of high quality customer service.
  • Evidence of performance of major duties.
  • Evidence of performance as a productive team member.
  • Evidence of effective internal and external relationships.
  • Evidence of delivering the USTA PNW mission.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Not applicable.

On-Court and Off-Court needs:

  • 99% On-Court (40% Lessons + 60% Programs)
  • 1% Off-Court (0-2 hours per week for admin/meetings/professional development)
  • Assist running tournaments as requested may temporarily increase # of Admin hours per week.
  • Subject to change with business needs.

Internal Relationships: Works primarily and directly with Associate Director of Tennis - Facilities/Head Tennis Pro (program delivery, curricula, templates, quality assessment and support) and meets weekly for team meetings as scheduled with Tennis Pros, General Manager, and leadership team. Interfaces with Front Desk Staff and Registration Coordinators as needed.

External Relationships: Maintains high quality customer service with Members, Non-Members, and Guests at USTA PNW Tennis Centers, particularly during on-court delivery and directly scheduling lessons. Represents the mission and organization at special events, conferences and training sessions as needed.

Requirements

Conditions of Hire:

  • Must have the ability to continually pass a background check.
  • Must complete the USTA Safe Sport online education course. Eligibility to be SafePlay approved and remain SafePlay approved through tenure at USTA PNW.
  • Completion of all Safety Training requirements.
  • Must register within ADP Workforce Now (payroll platform) to ensure proper tax and payroll recording.
  • Authorization to work within the United States administered by a 3rd party vendor.
  • Must sign the USTA PNW Offer Letter, Employee Handbook, and all required policies and procedures upon hire and as needed.
  • Ability to fulfill the essential job functions as described with reasonable accommodations given.

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with reasonable accommodations given. This position requires the ability to:
    • Operate standard office equipment, such as a computer (and its accessories), scanner, copy machine, printer, phone, or other home office equipment.
    • The ability to squat and bend over regularly.
    • Occasionally move office products and supplies, up to 30 pounds.
    • Talk, speak or hear.
    • Use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Carry out repetitive motions regularly such as typing and motions holding a tennis racquet,
    • Respond to sounds and visual cues.
